Mathnasium of SW Calgary - Problem of the Week!
Solve the problem of the week below for your grade level. During your @HOME session, be sure to tell your instructor or email the Math Centre your answer so your ballot can be deposited into your grade level entry box before closing time on Thursday. Students attending "in-Centre" sessions can deposit their ballots in their grade level entry box any time they are in the Math Centre during the week. On Thursday evening (8:00pm), a ballot will be drawn from each Problem of the Week Entry Box and the first “correct” solution drawn from each box will win a Fabulous $10 Gift Card. All other “correct” Mathlete solutions entered will receive “2” extra punches on their Reward Card at the start of their next session in the Math Learning Centre.

Problem of the Week for Grades 3 and 4: Niam is looking through his telescope and discovers a new planet with lots of Alien life. There are 7 eyes on a baby Alien and 10 eyes on an adult Alien. How many total eyes are there on 4 baby Aliens and 7 adult Aliens?
Problem of the Week for Grades 5 and 6: Brianna wants to buy a new cell phone. The cell phone costs $200. The sales tax rate is 13%. How much does the phone cost with tax?
Problem of the Week for Grades 7 and 8: Grace is planting flowers in her garden. Grace plants flowers in a perfect circle. The area of the circle that Grace created is approximately 803.84 sq m. What is the diameter of the circle Grace created? (π≈ 3.14)
Problem of the Week for Grades 9 and above: Cline has created a formula for his top-secret Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe to achieve the maximum amount of flavour. The equation is 5/9(F-32)=C+65. Cline needs the formula in terms of F. Solve the equation for F.
