Mathnasium of SW Calgary - Problem of the Week!

Solve the problem of the week below for your grade level. During your @HOME session, be sure to tell your instructor or email the Math Centre your answer so your ballot can be deposited into your grade level entry box before closing time on Thursday. Students attending "in-Centre" sessions can deposit their ballots in their grade level entry box any time they are in the Math Centre during the week. On Thursday evening (8:00pm), a ballot will be drawn from each Problem of the Week Entry Box and the first “correct” solution drawn from each box will win a Fabulous $10 Gift Card. All other “correct” Mathlete solutions entered will receive “2” extra punches on their Reward Card at the start of their next session in the Math Learning Centre.

Problem of the Week for Grades 3 and 4:  Allison brings a box of 24 gumdrops to school one morning. She ate half of the gumdrops at lunch. At afternoon recess, she ate half of the gumdrops she had left. How many gumdrops does Allison have left after recess?

Problem of the Week for Grades 5 and 6:  There are 10 knitters in a knitting club. Each knitter makes 18 hats per month. The knitting club takes all the hats and packs them in boxes of 12. How many boxes of hats can the knitting club fill in a month?

Problem of the Week for Grades 7 and 8:   Mason uses a promo code to get 20% off a video game console, plus free shipping! If the cost of the video game console is $450 and sales tax is 10% where Mason lives, then what is the final cost of the video game console?

Problem of the Week for Grades 9 and above:   What is the sum of all whole numbers from 1 to 150?

Grades 3 and 4:   A fantastic week of participation for the problem presented at this grade level and with so many correct solutions entered, "TWO" Winners were declared this past week!  Katherine and Kiki solved the problem and were the first TWO correct ballots to be drawn. Grades 5 and 6:   Another great week of participation and correct solutions to the problem posted this past week and with so many correct solutions entered, "TWO" Winners were declared this past week!  Cooper and Liam correctly solved the problem and were the first TWO correct ballots to be drawn.  They each win a Wonderful $10 Gift Card of their choice. Well done Cooper and Liam!  Also solving the problem were Scarlett, Luke, Sammie, Thea, Mara, William, Claire, Amy, Aaliya and Japnoor  Great effort put forward by everyone!  Everyone be sure to devote time this week to solving the problem!!   Become a Mathnasium Mathlete!

Grades 7 and 8:   An incredible number of submissions this past week to the problem posed has also resulted in "2" winners being declared   Isabel M. and Xavier solved the problem and were the first "2" correct ballots this week to be drawn after managing to solve the problem.  Fantastic work Isabel and Xavier, now come and choose a Terrific $10 Gift Card of your choice.   Also solving the problem were Millie, Lucy, Luke, Lincoln, Luqman, Jayna, Kareena, William, Japnoor, Ananya M., Liam, Carolina and Meher.  Outstanding effort put forth by everybody.  Everyone work on the problem again this week!!   Mathnasium – Home of the Power Math Workout!
