Dave Franek, Center Director/Owner
Dave got his degree in Broadcast Management and spent a few years in the entertainment industry before switching to education. He studied secondary education at the University of Phoenix and scored 100% on the math portion of the Arizona Teacher Certification Exam. Dave has worked with kids as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of Valley Big Brothers. It is important for Dave to create an environment where math makes sense to kids but that is also a fun place to go to learn.
Amanda Nguyen, Math tutor
Amanda Nguyen is currently majoring in biomedical engineering and premed at Barret, the Honors College at ASU. She volunteers at Zarzuela medical clinic, Cusco, and Pene Project CURE. Amanda was awarded first place in the the National Engineering Competition hosted in Washington, D.C.. She plans on going to medical school or entering the engineering industry, but she may just stay at Mathnasium forever. In her free time she enjoys hiking, eating, and sleeping. She enjoy frozen yogurt, but is not a fan of melted frozen yogurt.
Carina Brodsky, Math tutor
Carina Brodsky is currently a psychology and religious studies major at ASU and has worked at Mathnasium for nearly 2 years. She is the worship leader at her church in Phoenix. Her biggest accomplishment is taking first place in a school-wide math competition in fifth grade (and she still has has the medal). Her favorite part of working at Mathnasium is the "Aha!" moment when concepts finally click for students. She really enjoys being a part of helping students succeed.
Iman Safi, Math Tutor
Iman Safi is currently a pre-med major. She is a volunteer for the Salvation army and also volunteers for a school program, Into the Streets. Iman competed in the Science Olympics and is fluent in Farsi. She enjoys cooking, reading, and participating in outdoor activities when she has free time. Iman likes apple cinnamon pie, but she is definitely not a fan of avacados.
James Cruz, Math Tutor
James Cruz recently graduated from ASU with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. He has been accepted in to the Peace Corps and will be leaving this summer to work in Cambodia where he will stay for two years. Afterwards he plans on going to graduate school for physical therapy. In his free time he hones his Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu skills, hikes, and cooks. He really likes animals, but he is not very fond of puns. James' hidden talent is oragami crafting.
Beena Patel, Math tutor
Beena Patel graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with a bachelor's in chemical engineering. She attended high school at Premier Academy in Nairobi, Kenya. Beena volunteers her time to help out in the kitchen at the temple. She sometimes volunteers to help children improve their English. Beena graduated with a Summa Cum Laude at FIT. She plans on getting her professional engineering license after obtaining a few years of engineering work experience. Beena enjoys spending her time on yoga and swimming. She likes good weather, ice cream, and music festivals. Beena does not dislike anything!
Sarah Alamdari is currently studying chemical engineering at ASU. Sarah volunteers by maintaining a community garden. She was voted most likely to change the world in high school. Sarah plans on attending University of Washington next semester to begin a phD program. During her free time she enjoys playing with dogs, and drinking coffee. She likes pizza and does not like cacti.
