Mac Barron

Center Director

Hi all, my name is Mac and I love Math.  I attended Hardaway High School, studied Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech, and I'm currently studying Computer Science at Columbus State University.  I have been a member and leader of many extracurricular activities including math team, Academic Decathlon, marching band, and Model UN.  My tutoring experience began in middle school with a volunteer program in which I tutored peers in math and science topics after school.  I continued tutoring through school-related programs throughout high school, and have worked for multiple other tutoring/learning centers in the Atlanta & Columbus areas. I enjoy all things tech-related, and am an avid video game and music fan.  I love having the opportunity  to continue learning and sharing my knowledge with others.

Christel Barnett

Lead Math Instructor

Hello! My name is Christel! I absolutely love teaching kids all kids of math topics. I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Industrial Mathematics and Statistics from Eastern New Mexico University and am currently finishing my Master's of Arts in Theoretical Mathematics. Some of my favorite topics that I have studied are Differential Equations, Differential Geometry, and Squircles! I have enjoyed tutoring and teaching all kids of students and hope to continue to do so throughout the years!

Tom Hobbs

Math Instructor

Hi. I’m Tom, and I enjoy teaching math to the wonderful kids at Mathnasium! I retired from teaching high school after almost three decades, most of which were spent at Smiths Station High School. I enjoy teaching and learning. I earned my Master’s Degree in Math Education at what was then Columbus College in 1995, and my Bachelor of Science in Communication (Broadcasting) at the University of Tennessee in 1977. Upon graduating from UT, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry. Following Infantry Officer Basic, I earned my Ranger tab and Airborne wings before shipping off to Germany, where I spent three years as a platoon leader and, later, executive officer, of a mechanized infantry company. Following that assignment, I came back to Ft. Benning, completed the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, following which I became an instructor for that same course. After completing my five required years, then, as a civilian, I joined Loral Electro-Optical Systems as a MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) instructor at Ft. Riley, KS. When the government contract ended, I came back to the South where I belong, and started working towards earning a degree so I could teach. I’ve been doing that ever since.

JP Parker

Math Instructor

My name is JP. I received a M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2019, and I hold a B.S. in Chemistry from Kennesaw State University. I’ve been a musician for most of my life, specifically finding a passion in music through the art forms of writing and vocalizing lyrics. To me, math is the most frustrating and unforgiving, yet simultaneously the most insightful and beautiful science/art form I’ve come across. The areas of application that I study fall within the predictive sciences, such as Probability and Differential Equations, while my favorite areas of study are Abstract Algebra and Complex Analysis. Helping someone to understand a mathematical concept, especially in a way that empowers them as a learner, is unexplainably rewarding. I’m drawn to it, and I could not begin to tell you why, beyond the fact that 1) I enjoy the process and 2) I enjoy it when people succeemiddld. In my free time, I continue to study math, as I find it to be a bit like a craft at which one gets better with practice.

Hi all!

Kim Dove

Math Instructor

Hi, my name is Kim Dove and I love math.  I graduated from Troy University with a degree in accounting with a minor in comupter science.  I discovered that my passion was for teaching and earned a Masters degree from Auburn University.  I have been involved in education for over 30 years. I have taught everything from 4th grade to college classes.  I served as the director for a math and science program in Alabama for over 10 years and earned an education specialist degree.  I am now teaching middle and high school students in Georgia. My goal is to help students learn that math can be fun instead of a challenge.  It is like a great mystery just waiting to be solved.

Price Profitt

Math Instructor

Hi all! My name is Price. I have a passion for math and for helping people. I am currently a junior at Columbus High School. I am proud to say I have a 4.51 GPA. I enjoy chess, soccer, tennis, and learning. Philosophy and math are my two favorite areas of knowledge. I hope to become a cardiothoracic or neurosurgeon. I am glad to have the ability to assist fellow students with understanding the interesting subject of math!

Noreen Rodriguez

Math Instructor

Hello all! My name is Noreen but all my students call me NRod.  I graduated from Pacelli High School in 1992, and I have taught all subjects of high school math there from 1999 until 2020, after graduating with a B. A. in Biological Science at Wellesley College in 1996.  While teaching, I earned my M.Ed. In Secondary Math at Columbus State University in 2005.  I also coached Cross Country because I love to run distance, and I love seeing my runners outdo themselves.

I became a math teacher because I enjoyed tutoring my classmates while I was a student at Pacelli, and I figured out that sometimes it’s not math skills, but communication skills that are at the root of the problem.  What my students have taught me over my 21 years in the classroom with them, is that communication, discipline, creativity, a sense of humor, and how loudly I cheered for them from the stands, all helped them learn math with greater desire and motivation.   I learned that having someone in your corner is a force that should never be underestimated, and is what all students need for success.  I am glad to be a part of the Mathasium team because I see the ingredients for student success being cultivated by each of the math coaches I work with.

Colton Redmond

Math Instructor

Hi all! I attend Northside high school, where I maintain a 4.304 GPA. I enjoy playing the piano, guitar, and writing music. Another of my hobbies is weightlifting. Tutoring has always been in my nature, as I enjoy helping others understand the things which I’ve been so fortunate to learn from my teachers!
