Matt Del Castillo Jr.

Hi, my name is Matt and I love Math. I have a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering. I've worked overseas for big technology corporations using my math skills. I have also taught math classes at the college level in the U.S. I really enjoying teaching math to young minds because they have so much energy and potential. Speaking of energy, one of my favorite things to do is have fun singing karaoke. I love music. I'm also an avid Harry Potter fan. Working as Center Director at Mathnasium is very rewarding because I get to help so many students become their best math student possible. It brings me so much joy!

Mac Barron

Assistant Center Director

Hi, my name is Mac and I love Math.  I graduated from Hardaway High School in 2012 and am pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech.  I have been a member and leader of many extracurricular activities including math team, Academic Decathlon, marching band, and Model UN.  My tutoring experience began in middle school with a volunteer program in which I tutored peers in math and science topics after school.  I continued tutoring through school-related programs throughout high school, and have worked for multiple other tutoring/learning centers in the Atlanta & Columbus areas. I enjoy all things tech-related, and am an avid video game and music fan.  I love having the opportunity  to continue learning and sharing my knowledge with others.

Mary Williams

Lead Math Instructor

Hi, my name is Mary and I love Math. I have an Associate's degree in Business, an Early Childhood Education degree from Valdosta State University, and a Master's degree in Religious Studies. I am a certified teacher with a professional teaching license.  I'm a life-long learner and I enjoy teaching what I've learned. For many years, I taught Math and Science to seventh and eighth grade students. I also taught third graders at a local private school. I was privileged to receive the "Golden Apple" Outstanding Teacher award by WRBL News in April 2012. Serving others is very important to me and I have been blessed to teach as a missionary in Paraguay and other parts of the United States. Mathnasium gives me an opportunity to share my love for learning with the next generation of leaders.

Tom Hobbs

Math Instructor

Hi. I’m Tom, and I enjoy teaching math to the wonderful kids at Mathnasium! I retired from teaching high school after almost three decades, most of which were spent at Smiths Station High School. I enjoy teaching and learning. I earned my Master’s Degree in Math Education at what was then Columbus College in 1995, and my Bachelor of Science in Communication (Broadcasting) at the University of Tennessee in 1977. Upon graduating from UT, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry. Following Infantry Officer Basic, I earned my Ranger tab and Airborne wings before shipping off to Germany, where I spent three years as a platoon leader and, later, executive officer, of a mechanized infantry company. Following that assignment, I came back to Ft. Benning, completed the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, following which I became an instructor for that same course. After completing my five required years, then, as a civilian, I joined Loral Electro-Optical Systems as a MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) instructor at Ft. Riley, KS. When the government contract ended, I came back to the South where I belong, and started working towards earning a degree so I could teach. I’ve been doing that ever since.

Joseph Turley

Math Instructor

Hi, my name is Joseph and I love Math. I graduated from Columbus High School where I was a member of the CHS Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the nationwide math honor society, math team, and the marching band. I am currently a senior at Columbus State University studying Earth and Space Science Secondary Education, with a minor in Physics. In my spare time, I really like tinkering with things. The experience of breaking something and then putting it back together again is fascinating to me. Because I love learning, instructing at Mathnasium gives me an opportunity to not only share my knowledge but also learn new things. At Mathnasium, I always look forward to helping students develop a love for math like I have.

Wil Windham

Math Instructor

Hi, my name is Wil and I love Math. I graduated from Northside High School in 2016, and now I am a student at Columbus State University.  I am getting my degree in clarinet performance with a certificate in music composition.  I have been working at Mathnasium since January 2017, and I enjoy getting to know all of the students and helping them grow both in their math abilities and as people.  Outside of Mathnasium, I spend much of my time practicing clarinet, writing music, or getting ready for concerts, recitals, or competitions.  I am also currently researching and getting ready to attend graduate school.

Afinju "Fin" Mcdowell

Hi, my name is Fin, and I love Math! I am a native of Brooklyn, New York, and I earned my Bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University. I retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after twenty years of service. Also, I am a 2016 Woodrow Wilson Georgia Teaching Fellow and earned my teaching degree at Georgia State University. I currently teach math at Richards Middle School in Columbus, GA. I recently was awarded the Kinetic Golden Apple Award and look forward to helping your child succeed at Mathematics.

Sarah Nichols

Math Instructor

Hello, my name is Sarah and I love Math!  While in high school, I was on the math team and competed with other schools in the Atlanta area.  I graduated from Presbyterian College in 2013 with a degree in Biology and a dual minor in Chemistry and Psychology.  When not doing math, I am an avid seamstress and costume maker.  I love Mathnasium because of its unique approach to math.  I have seen students come in nervous and anxious about math, and leave feeling confident and excited.  I remember struggling with math, especially in middle school, and I wish there had been a Mathnasium where I lived.  It's a fun, inviting environment that makes math make sense!

Jessica Patel

Math Instructor

I am a senior at Columbus High School right now. Math of course is my favorite subject, but I do enjoy social studies as well. When outside of school, photography and abstract paining as a hobby. I love anything coffee flavored and anything ice cream. So happy to be a part of the Mathnasium family!
