Our Results

At Mathnasium, we help kids understand math by teaching the way that makes sense to them. Children who consistently attend sessions at our learning centers enjoy a transformative learning experience and make huge strides in the classroom.

"I have an unabashed, wholehearted recommendation. 
 
I met the owner, Sam Younis, of Mathnasium of Decatur about a year ago since we are both in the STEM field. Only last night did I get a true idea of the value of what they are doing. Last night I took my son, who is nine, for a session. 
 
My son has great number sense but has gotten hung up on many of the concepts in fourth grade math. As a math/science teacher myself, I've been "helping" him. However, nothing was really unlocking his blocks. He's been getting more and more frustrated and defeated. Most of his recent math homework has ended with him in tears. 
 
He worked on fractions at Mathnasium last night. I kid you not, in an hour they came farther than I had been able to in two weeks. The concepts started to make sense to my son again. The barriers started dropping away and the pieces started to come together. Light bulbs were going off. It was beautiful. 
 
I love their emphasis on number sense and deep understanding. My son isn't just going to "do" it if he doesn't understand it. For instance, using a pie to illustrate fractions just didn't work for my son. The instructor, who was working 1:1 with him, realized that and switched to a different bar-shaped manipulative. Immediately, everything shifted and my son could literally see (and touch) the fractions. Also, the way that the instructor explained things was so simple, so age-appropriate, so logical, so respectful. He had methods that I never even thought of that made perfect sense to my son! Awe-some! 
 
When we got home my son asked me to play the song, "Happy" and we danced. 

I'm relieved and grateful. "
