Love of math adds up to success In Fairfield: Mathnasium learning center teaches understanding of subject without memorization By Meg Barone Correspondent FAIRFIELD — David P. Lubner has a degree in biochemistry, and a master’s in business administration, which he planned to combine with his love for math to open his own tutoring business. “I’ve always had math come to me pretty easily. I was thinking of opening a center for myself. I’ve done a lot of tutoring on the side, but in doing my research I found Mathnasium, which aligned perfectly with my math philosophy: You have to have an understanding of math, not memorization,” Lubner said. Mathnasium, the Math Learning Center, is a national franchise, and Lubner has become director of the local Mathnasium, which opened in Heritage Square, 1700 Post
