Betsy Washburn

Betsy Washburn

Owner
Betsy grew up in Glendale, Arizona, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Arizona State University. In 1995, Betsy moved to Southeast Missouri where she obtained her teaching certificate and began teaching junior high and high school mathematics. Betsy has 11 years classroom experience in teaching mathematics and has a passion for helping students find success in math. Betsy has also earned a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governor’s University. While in Kansas City, Missouri, Betsy was lucky to be the Center Director for Mathnasium of Blue Valley, a very successful center in Overland Park, KS. This experience fueled a strong passion for the Mathnasium method and helping students make sense of math. Betsy has two grown children, Cole and Riley. They, as a family, recently returned to the Phoenix area and love it. In her spare time, Betsy loves to read, travel, spend time with her family.

Tammie Yoakum

Hello, my name is Tammie Yoakum, and I few up in Glendale with my sister/co-owner, Betsy. Before I started working in the center fulltime, I had a 30-year career in the premium finance industry. I was blessed to have that career, but Mathnasium is a ton more fun. The best part of being at Mathnasium is to see the "aha" moments and to see a students confidence grow. When I'm not working, I like spending time with my family and friends. I also love music, movies, reading and traveling.

Katie Rendon

Hello! My name is Katie Rendon. I am the Assistant Center Director of Mathnasium of Fountain Hills. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education (Earth and Space Sciences) from Arizona State University. I am an avid reader, puzzle enthusiast, and a big Disney fan. I believe it is very important for a student to understand why they got their answer, so they can apply that knowledge to future problems for continued success. I look at math as a puzzle that I can solve with the proper tools and strategies.

Daniel Quan

Hello! I'm Daniel Quan and I am enrolled in the dual enrollment program at Arizona Christian University studying to be a chiropractor. Some of my extracurricular activities include speaking and debating competitively, and teaching private flute lessons. In my free time I love to exercise, play basketball and swim. I have a passion for math and I joined Mathnasium to share hat passion with others.

Lan Quan

My name is Lan Quan and I have been a homeschool teacher for the past 20 years. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and worked in the semiconductor field as a test engineer. In my free time, I enjoy growing organic vegetables in my garden as well as learn how to make healthier meals. My husband and I are blessed with four children that we decided to homeschool. I taught them math from elementary to high school level and they all received high scores on the SAT. I also taught a SAT math prep course for the Fountain Hills Christian Home Educators group. Throughout two decades of homeschooling, I've seen that every student learns math differently according to their learning style. It will be my honor to join the Mathnasium team to help students conquer and master all levels of mathematics.

Hi! My name is Vinnie Caggiula and I'm currently enrolled as a freshman in Computer Science at Arizona State University. I'm very passionate about fundamental and object-based learning, and I hope to share my expertise through becoming a Mathnasium tutor! Aside from math, I'm very passionate about music production and songwriting!

Michael Waugh

Hi, I'm Mike Waugh. I grew up in a small town in southeastern Ohio and have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, and a secondary education from Rio Grande College. I've been a house painter, handyman, teacher, tutor, truck driver, and worked in a tattoo shop with a mortician and an EMT on staff. I was an environmental specialist for over 25 years serving in the Appalachian Mountains of Ohio and West Virginia. My wife and i have four children and three grandchildren. We enjoy reading, traveling and exploring odd and unusual places.

Kevin Donnellan

Hello, My name is Kevin and I am a Northern Arizona University graduate. I majored in math since it was always the subject that I found to be the easiest, aside from science. This is my first year here at Mathnasium and I wish to help students understand the language of the universe, and see the beauty in numbers. Outside of my time at Mathnasium, I enjoy playing video games, and going on three to five-mile runs in the Tonto National Forest.

Peyton LeDrew

Hello, I'm Peyton and I am currently a student at ASU pursuing a degree in Planetary Sciences. One day I hope to become an Astrophysicist. I grew up here in Arizona and have always had a passion for math. I also enjoy coding, writing, story telling, video editing and graphic design.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
