Brian Burtner

Lead Instructor

Brian is an experienced STEM tutor at Frederick Community College, recently graduated from Hood college (B.A.), with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Actuarial Science (he has a particular love for probability, statistics, and optimization). Since roughly 2011, he has helped fresh-out-of-high-school undergraduates and adult learners alike overcome the structurally inherent pedagogical shortcomings of the public school system to achieve functional literacy in college-level algebra and beyond. For his work in this field he was declared Maryland 2017 Student Employee of the Year by the Northeast Association of Student Employment Administrators. Brian knows that developing good ‘number sense’ is the critical first step to self-sufficiency in mathematical problem solving – and the Mathnasium method is laser-focused on this goal!

Juliet Traini

Instructor

Juliet is an upcoming junior at Hood College. She is pursuing a degree in mathematics with a concentration in computer science. Juliet has participated in several STEM-related organizations, including Woman To Woman Mentoring and Sonia Kovalevsky Day. With prior babysitting and camp counseling experience, Juliet is prepared to patiently guide students to their math goals and help them identify the patterns that connect all math together. She is fascinated by the ordered beauty of math and hopes every student that leaves Mathnasium has a newfound appreciation for how awesome math is!

Ben Cole

Instructor

Ben is a senior at Oakdale High School. He is a member of National Honor Society, the Oakdale Student Government Association, and the Ambassadors Program, where he mentors underclassmen and provides them with academic and social support. In addition, he has prior math tutoring experience when he tutored an Oakdale student for 5 months in advanced algebra. He is experienced at working with younger aged students through his work as a religious education helper and summer camp counselor for children with Type One Diabetes. Ben loves watching students become aware of their own thought processes to gain a deeper understanding of math – which is a core principle of the Mathnasium method!
