Owner/Center DirectorMichael Adler, Owner

Hello, I'm Michael, Owner of Mathnasium of Fresh Pond. Thank you for considering our Mathnasium Math Learning Center.

I decided to open a Math Learning Center after many years in the international business world, working in IT Management and later Marketing and Business Development in High-Tech. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (BA) from Brandeis University and dual Masters Degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Business Informatics (MBI) from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University in the Netherlands.

I have always loved math and know from personal experience how the right help and encouragement can really change children's lives. I now want to give children struggling with math an opportunity to overcome their difficulties and learn to enjoy math as much as I do.

I look forward to inviting you and your child to Mathnasium of Fresh Pond.

InstructorRainer Humphries, Center Director

Rainer has always loved math and helping others, and started supporting the students around him in math classes as early as 8th grade. While at Northeastern University for undergrad, he did a six month internship with Mathnasium (in 2016), fell in love, and never left. He has worked as an Instructor, Lead Instructor, Director of Education, and is enjoying the challenges and opportunities of the Center Director role as of 2021.

  Ashton Black, Lead Instructor

Ashton recently graduated with his Master’s in Biology from Tufts University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Southern Maine. Ashton was introduced to Mathnasium in Portland, Maine in 2018 and joined our team at Fresh Pond upon moving to Cambridge in 2019. He is currently our lead instructor and can usually be found by the door greeting students, as they enter the center. What he enjoys most about his time with Mathnasium is “building connections with students and giving them the support they need to be confident and successful in mathematics.” In his free time, Ashton enjoys drawing, reading, and shooing his cat away from his food.

InstructorDerek Chen, Instructor

Derek is a rising sophomore at Belmont High School. Math has always been an integral part of his life. He is currently taking AP Calculus BC. He has been on the math team since 6th grade and has also participated in competition mathematics such as the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). He enjoys both learning math as well as imparting that knowledge and wisdom onto younger children and allowing them to find a love for math. Besides being on the math team, he is also involved in the science team and the coding club. In his free time, he enjoys running, tennis, hanging out with friends, and making art.

InstructorSaira Licht, Instructor

Saira is a current senior at Belmont High School, where she takes AP Calculus BC and loves it! She has been working at Mathnasium of Fresh Pond since the summer of 2018. Saira loves spending time with kids and helping them feel comfortable and confident in all areas of math. At Mathnasium especially, Saira enjoys the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the learning center. Outside of work, she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and hanging out with friends.

InstructorAlice Liu, Instructor

Alice is a junior at Belmont High School. Having finished AP Calculus BC last year, she is currently taking Multivariable Calculus at Harvard Extension School. In addition, she participates in the school’s Math Team and takes part in competitions. Alice has always found math to be a fascinating and useful subject, and hopes to help others see the same. In her free time, she enjoys reading books, trying crafts, and playing video games.

InstructorSiena Maislin, Instructor

Siena is a junior at Arlington High School, where she took AP Statistics last year and is currently taking BC Calculus. She found math tedious when she was younger, but found a love for the subject after exploring challenge opportunities when she tested out of 6th grade math. Since then, Siena has sought out extracurricular math and science opportunities and courses, especially focused on astrophysics and aerospace engineering. Siena works at Mathnasium to share her passion for math with other students, and to improve her own understanding of the material through teaching it. In her free time, she enjoys playing cello, spending time with friends, and playing ultimate frisbee.

InstructorSaeyoung Choi, Instructor

Saeyoung is a senior at Belmont High School taking both AP Calculus and AP Statistics for her math courses this year. She has always loved math and working with younger students so instructing at Mathnasium has helped her fulfill both passions at once. She is the co-founder and president of the Belmont Dream Big (Immigration) Club and also spends time at the Asian American Club. Some of her hobbies include baking, hanging out with friends, and listening to music.

InstructorTaylor Sedoo, Instructor

Outside of work Shoshana loves dance, cheerleading, volunteering at animal shelters, and hanging out with her friends.
