Mark Minson, Owner
Mark graduated with a B.S. degree in computer science from Brigham Young University and has worked as a developer and IT professional for the past 15 years. One of the best things about his education was discovering that math can be fun. After years of tutoring local children in math and being told that teaching was his true calling, Mark decided to pursue Mathnasium.
Mark loves math and delights in seeing the light that goes on when a new concept is understood. He is really excited to bring the Mathnasium method to Utah and his community. The prospect of teaching kids to really like doing math, just as many really like reading, is very exciting. An avid reader and woodworker, Mark also love to snow and water ski. He loves to spend time with his family, skiing in the winter and hiking & camping in the summer in the wonderful mountains of northern Utah.
Yale Minn, Center Director
Yale is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has a B.S. in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy. He also has an M.A. in Education & CA teaching credential from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology. He received a Naval officer commission from the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
In his free time, he enjoys writing and weight training. Yale loves teaching math because of its direct relationship to planning, risk management, and business development. Yale has a background in Fortune 500 management consulting, and enjoys helping others achieve their business goals.
Lydia Ballstaedt, Lead Instructor
Lydia is from American Fork, Utah and loves living there. She enjoys all types of music and has played the piano for over 10 years. She also loves to meet new people and make new friends! In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants with her friends and family. Lydia began to like math early on in her life when she discovered how exact math is.
Now currently an AP Calculus student, she loves to teach because she finds it extremely rewarding to watch students understand concepts they once considered difficult. Though currently a senior at American Fork High School, she is planning to attend Utah State University in the Fall of 2019 and is excited for the big change
Ryan Bartholomew, Lead Instructor
Ryan Bartholomew runs cross country, enjoys reading, programming, and loves playing chess. He is the oldest of 10 kids in his family. He is advanced in math for his grade, taking BC Calculus as a freshman. As a sophomore, he enjoys clubs at school such as an engineering club (EMEC), academic decathlon, and the math team. When he grows up, he would like to become an electrical engineer and hopes to get a degree at MIT. He loves teaching math because of how rewarding it is to see changes in the students' learning and because it allows him to combine his passion for math and his love for children.
Ethan West, Lead Instructor
Ethan is a Junior at American Fork High School taking AP BC Calculus. Ethan's love for math came in 10th grade when learning about imaginary numbers, after seeing that they were more than just contrived figures and actually intuitive tools for problem solving. With this realization came a desire to learn more and spread the same feeling of discovery.
When Ethan is not teaching math, he is seen composing music, running on the Canal Trail, designing video games, creating digital artwork, or maybe just having a snack. He hopes to pursue Animation or Computer Science after high school, but for now just loves teaching math at the Mathnasium. Oh, and one fun fact about Ethan is that he can solve 7 different kinds of Rubik's Cubes.
SCARLET, Lead Instructor
Bryttn is from Sandy, Utah. He is recently married and is loving married life. He loves to help out others and help them to learn along with him. In his free time he loves to listen to music, read, and just have a good time. He has taken many many math classes and loves to learn new ways to solve problems and help others to do the same. He currently attends Utah Valley University and is majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Information Technology and Information Systems.
Jason Brown, Instructor
Jason is from Riverton Utah, but currently lives in Lehi. Jason has a year left in his Math Education program at UVU after which he plans to teach high school math. Jason loves math and can't wait to start teaching. He also loves playing tennis, and is currently coaching at his Alma Mater, Riverton High School. He enjoys everything outdoors, especially mountain biking, running, and hiking.
Kenzie Bybee, Instructor
Kenzie Bybee is from Highland, Utah. She loves running cross country and track, snowmobiling, being outdoors, learning new things at school in many subjects, being with her family and friends, and competing in professional clogging. She is looking forward to college in the fall and is excited for many new adventures and experiences to come. Kenzie’s favorite part about teaching math is getting to know the students and watching them grow in confidence and in the process of understanding and appreciating math. Her favorite characteristic of math is that it helps develop problem-solving skills that are helpful in every area of life.
Madison Hafen, Instructor
Madison Hafen is from Alpine, Utah. She runs track and cross country and absolutely loves it. She plans to attend BYU this fall and hopes to enroll in the nursing program there. Madi loves teaching students and helping them complete and eventually understand a difficult concept or problem. Madi’s favorite math application is using math in budgeting and problem solving. One fun fact about Madi is that she’s a quarter Danish.
Kaytlin is from Highland, Utah. She enjoys reading and playing tennis. Kaytlin is the oldest of five kids and is part of the Math Team and American History Club at Lone Peak High School. She is currently working on an Associates Degree from BYU and plans on attending BYU for her undergraduate studies. She teaches Math because she loves seeing the improvement and understanding in her students at Mathnasium.
