Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

 William Chu, Owner/Center Director

Hello!  My name is William Chu, although most people call me Bill.  I am the new owner/center director of the Mathnasium of Highlands Ranch.  Math has always been a big part of my life.  My mother was a middle school math teacher before making a mid-life career change and entering the world of computer science.  I grew up with a passion for math.   I attended Cornell University where I majored in electrical engineering, graduating with highest honors.  I then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where I received my Masters and Ph.D., both in electrical engineering.  I met my wife in graduate school at MIT and we have two children: my son is a physics major at the University of California Berkeley and my daughter is a senior at Cherry Creek High School and plans to major in computer science in college.

I am one of those people who love math problems.  I was motivated to run a Mathnasium franchise because I had heard so many positive things about Mathnasium from friends and co-workers who had sent their children to their local Mathnasium center.

My favorite math concept is complex numbers (numbers which have a real number combined with an imaginary number).  Often, complex numbers are introduced in high school in one of the classes (often Algebra 2) without any context.  Students are preplexed and turned-off because they don't understand the application.  It turns out that complex numbers are at the heart of many applications in science and engineering; from circuits in electrical engineering, to resonances in mechanical engineering, to quantum mechanics in physics.

Outside of my math pursuits, I like to explore the outdoors through hiking and photography.  I like to hike with our two spoiled dogs.  My favorite places are Glacier National Park and the Algarve in Portugal.

Danielle Peskin, Assistant Center Director

Hi, my name is Danielle Peskin and I am excited to be the Assistant Center at Mathnasium of Highlands Ranch.    I have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from University of Utah. My real passion is teaching math and helping students love math!  Prior to coming to Mathnasium of Highlands Ranch, I was a mentor instructor at the Layton, UT Mathnasium.   I love helping students build confidence in math and helping them fill their gaps or providing enrichment to students who need the extra challenge!

I think Mathnasium is effective becasue the curriculum is "user-friendly" and our instructors are the best!

When I am not doing “math” I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend and our dog Sylas.  I also am a die-hard Eagles fan!

A fun fact about me: I'm very afraid of parachutes!

 Alison Edwards, Instructor

Hi, my name is Alison Edwards. I attend ThunderRidge High School the home of the Grizzlies!

I enjoy crafting in my free time.  My favorite TV Show is Grey’s Anatomy.

I think Mathnasium is amazing because it helps kids look at math in a new way to encourage understanding.

My favorite topic to make easier for students to understand is percents

I enjoy helping students to understand the why instead of only the how.

A fun fact about me: I am type one diabetic.

My future goals are to become a neuro/vascular sonographer.

I am a peer intern.

Himan Shaik, Instructor

Hi, my name is Himan. I am currently attending Thunder Ridge High School – go Grizzlies! In my free time, I enjoy working out, playing tennis, or watching my favorite TV show, Arrow. In my future, I would like to apply my passion for helping others by becoming either a sports trainer or psychologist.

I think Mathnasium is helpful because it allows students to grow their knowledge and understanding of math with the guidance of trained instructors. My favorite topic to help students learn is multiplication, although I enjoy helping students learn all four of their basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) since these are the skills they will use throughout life.

Narendhar Prasad, Instructor

Hi, my name is Narendhar (I go by Naren). I go to school at Rock Canyon High School – go Jags! When I am not at work or school, you can find me playing tennis, practicing the saxophone, or watching my favorite sports team, the Denver Broncos. I also spend time volunteering at Swedish Medical Center.

I think Mathnasium is amazing because it provides an opportunity for me to pass on my knowledge and help other students get better at a subject I love! I especially enjoy helping students understand word problems.

Liron Steiner, Instructor

Hi, my name is Liron and I currently go to school at Highlands Ranch High School – go Falcons! Outside of work and school, I enjoy participating in karate or eating some really good sushi. A fun fact about me is that I was born in Israel.

I think Mathnasium is beneficial because it helps students to fill in foundational gaps in their math knowledge so they can be successful in higher level math classes later on! My favorite topic to make easier for students to understand is percents. I enjoy helping students have “aha” moments and figure out how to solve problems they originally felt stumped by. After college, I hope to apply my love for math as a Structural Engineer.

Yu Jin Byun, Instructor

Hi, my name is Yu Jin. I am currently in college at CU-Denver; go Lynx! In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors (I used to play rugby). My favorite sports team is the Glendale Raptors.

I think Mathnasium is great because it helps students develop their math skills and build their confidence! I love watching each student grow and tackle topics they once thought were “too hard”, such as algebra. I plan to use my love for math in my future to become either an accountant or math teacher.

Emerson Hessee, Instructor

Hi, my name is Emerson Hessee. I am attending the University of Denver as a math major. When I am not at school or Mathnasium, you can find me playing music on one of my many instruments or doing aerial silks. My favorite topics to make easier for students are fractions, order of operations, and Algebra. A fun fact about me: I was born here but grew up in Los Angeles.

I plan to use my degree and love for math to become either a forensic accountant or math teacher!
