Participate in our Canned Food Drive Benefiting Feed NC this Holiday Season
Dec 7, 2020
This month at Mathnasium, we’re reflecting on what 2020 has brought us. We have grown as a whole through our kids, our team, and curriculum. We rolled out the Mathnasium@home program beginning in March, and it has been a huge success. After the initial challenges of COVID, we safely reopened our learning centers in June and have been serving our Mathnasium Family ever since!. Overall, considering the challenges our community has faced in 2020, we have been fortunate to continue offering math education in a way that makes sense to kids! That said, we wanted to find a way to pitch in and give back to our community; after all, this is the community that supports us and that we have the pleasure of serving! This holiday season, we decided to launch a canned goods drive to benefit FeedNC!
FeedNC is located in Mooresville, NC but supports families throughout the region by serving approximately 150 community members each day! They are not just a soup kitchen to our community but a place of opportunity. They offer cooking classes for kids and teenagers that are hand selected to create healthy, nutritious dishes. Their 12 week training program provides unemployed individuals with life skills and hands-on training in the culinary world and connects them with restaurants and businesses in the area. They also operate a food pantry which provides families with $150 to $200 of groceries each week and provide groceries to those homebound in food insecure places. Lastly, FeedNC provides hot meals to our neighbors in need. In 2018, 24,310 adults and 3,191 kids were served in their dining room in Mooresville.
To make the most out of our canned goods drive, we are partnering with Mathnasium of Mooresville for a little friendly competition! We are asking our Mathnasium families to bring in goods from the list of immediate needs below for 5 stars per item! Those stars will add up to cards that can be traded for rewards. We ask that ALL of our families that are able, please participate in this giving opportunity! For our Mathansium@home students, we will collect the goods from you if you simply pull up in front of the center and give us a call or simply drop them by the center during our open hours. Whichever Mathnasium Learning Center collects the most goods will receive a socially distant doughnut party! YUM! We will be collecting goods from December 1st to the 21st and our Center Directors Andrew Bennett of Huntersville and Paige Konsul of Mooresville will be dropping off our boxes on December 22nd so that FeedNC can be stocked for Christmas. We hope that you can join us in celebrating the real meaning of the holidays, GIVING BACK!
