Egyptian Fractions: Looking at Unit Fractions (Video)

A topic very rarely explored in the math classroom, but extremely useful to add to our math toolbox. Working only with unit fractions, the Egyptians renamed fractions that we would use today solely as the sum of unit fractions. Learn to work with fractions just as the Egyptians did, and find out why we may choose to use this knowledge in certain real-life problems. Recommended for upper elementary and above.

My daughter enjoys the classes, as well as the points and rewards. I like the assessments that are happening, and the customized plans that are being built for her. I appreciate the instructional component in the small group setting. The fact that she doesn’t complain about going to her Mathnasuim classes is testament to your center!
The one development area I would have you focus on is make sure the instructors are all trained on how to deal with kids- there is one that I hear complaints about

Very attentive and professional staff that supports all questions related to appointments and student needs. The scheduling system is also easy to use and allows for managing changes due to conflicts. I have very much appreciated the regular assessments and follow up to learn more about my student, i.e. the test results are discussed, current path explained and future opportunities are outlined. Thank you for the attention to detail and prompt/effective follow up.

My son Alexander started attending Mathnasium last August 2021 to help him review and get caught up to his 4th grade math level. His confidence was low going in and the young staff are so helpful explaining every detail. Today, he has accomplished all of his assessments for 5th grade and he feels confident in his ability and knowledge of math. I am so proud and happy we enrolled him at Mathnasium. The staff at the Laurelwood location has been wonderful with changing appointments, making-up missed days and most of all keeping us informed of my son’s progress.

The kids are excited about Math. They are excited to go each time, to earn points more than anything, but along the way they are learning. So much for the pursuit of higher education for knowledge itself, when you can earn points for prizes. But since you have to learn and improve along the way and the materials get more demanding as you rise, you get the result in a painless (?) process. Brilliant.

When Covid is over , can we still do zoom classes ? The option to have online tutoring and not have to drive my child to you as I sit in the car has changed my life . We live about 40 mins always . Please keep the online zoom, this helps parents immensely.

My daughter has retained a lot of the teachings she has had from the centers instructors. It’s helped her keep her grade up and I couldn’t be more happier. The people here at this center really listen to what she needs and apply every bit of bit she needs. I’ve been at another center before and this one just can’t compare to it. All counselors, especially the lead counselor and the site director are great! They teach my son not only math skills but also time management of taking test etc. I am very happy to see my son's progress! He is almost one year ahead of his grade level now. My daughter struggled in math but ever since she's been attending Mathnaisum I can see she is more comfortable with solving problems, and she is grasping concepts better. She is eager to go to her sessions and likes all the instructors. I would highly recommend Mathnasium to any of my friends and relatives.

Our son was excited about Mathnasium right from the start. He didn’t find the evaluation test daunting or stressful but rather challenging and intriguing. He enjoyed his first complimentary lesson so much that he couldn’t wait to start the program. It is a delight to see him so thrilled and proud to share the new concepts he learns with us. We can’t wait to see the impact Mathnasium has on him as he starts Middle School in August.

When my child was in kindergarten and first grade, she was getting discouraged that she wasn’t learning as quickly as some of her peers as school. She was never behind and was just one of the youngest kids in for her grade. She was doubting herself and was developing a negative association with learning math. She was more comfortable practicing with her Mathnasium tutors than her own parents. After two years, math is now one of her stronger subjects at school and she enjoys completing extra math homework for fun. On her last day of second grade, her teacher announced she was one of a handful of students who aced the last unit test. (It’s ok to use my comments, but I would like to keep my name private.)

I was a math class skeptic. My husband wanted my girls to get extra math so they become confident in their math skills and I could not argue with that, but the kicker was that my girls wanted to take the classes. And then...they LOVED them. Every time we had to take a break b/c of our schedule, the girls would ask to go back.
I love the flexibility of the set up. The teachers are young and relate to my kids. Very professional.
