April Student Spotlight: Emily

Apr 4, 2019

This April, we are highlighting Emily! Emily, a high school sophomore, has been with us for over a year and is known for practically dancing into the center every time she comes. Even when she doesn’t feel like dancing though, she always works hard.

Todd: What year in high school are you? What’s it like?

Emily: I am in my second year. I like my school. I’m involved in the UNICEF club, orchestra, and Asian culture club. I also play the violin.

Todd: Why did you start coming to Mathnasium?

Emily: I knew I would have trouble in geometry. In middle school whenever we did topics in geometry I always found it very difficult, so when I got to high school I didn’t want to fail.

Todd: What do you love most about Mathnasium?

Emily: I really like the instructors and the environment. It’s very friendly. You meet new people that you kind of become friends with, even though they might not go to your school or be involved in the same things.

Todd: What is your favorite event we have here?

Emily: I love pizza night and doughnut days.

Todd: What do you want to do in life?

Emily: I want to go to college and major either in astrophysics or astronomy, maybe minor in chemical engineering. I would want to start out at a community college for the first two years, to save cost, then maybe transfer to Lehigh or Penn State. That will let me figure out if that’s what I really want to do.

Todd: Why astrophysics or astronomy?

Emily: I really like space, and space is where everything is started. I wonder what started it all and how it started, and I’d like to get one step closer to answering that question.

Todd: Who are some people that inspire you?

Emily: My mom and my step-father, Chester. They’re both hard workers and they have a lot of kindness. I hope to be like them.

Todd: What would be your life motto?

Emily: I really like the saying, “Hope springs eternal.” It has always attracted me.
