FAQ

FAQs about ACT Test Prep in Allen

  • What math do I need to know for the ACT?

    ACT tests proficiency in:

    • Pre-Algebra
    • Algebra
    • Geometry
    • Trigonometry
    • Statistics & Probability

In Algebra, students will encounter operations, equations, and inequalities.

Geometry questions will mostly focus on shapes, angles, and areas.

Trigonometry questions usually include sine, cosine, and tangent functions.

Statistics & Probability questions may involve interpreting data and calculating the mean and probability.

  • What is the difference between the ACT and SAT math?

The main differences between the ACT and SAT math sections are in the scope of topics and question formats.

    • Math topics: The SAT is more focused on algebra and data analysis, while the ACT includes additional topics like geometry and trigonometry.
    • Format: The ACT typically features more straightforward questions, while the SAT includes complex word problems and multi-step problems that require deeper analysis.
    • Scoring: The ACT math section is scored on a 1–36 scale, while the SAT math section ranges from 200 to 800.
    • Allotted Time: The ACT provides approximately 1 minute per question, whereas the SAT provides around 1.5 minutes per question.
    • Calculator Policy: Lastly, the ACT allows calculators for all math questions, whereas the SAT restricts calculator use to one section.

The range of topics and structure of questions will help students decide how to best prepare for each test based on their strengths and learning style.

  • What is a good math score on ACT?

A good math score on the ACT depends on the student’s college goals and the schools they’re applying to.

The ACT math section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, with the national average score being around 20-21.

A score of 24-26 is considered competitive for most colleges and universities. For more selective schools, such as top-tier universities, students may want to aim for a score of 30-34.

The perfect score of 36 is rare but highly impressive.

Students aiming for merit-based scholarships may want to pursue a score of 28 or higher to increase their eligibility.

Ultimately, a good score is one that aligns with the admission requirements of student’s desired schools.
