FAQ

FAQs about SAT Test Prep in Allen

  • What math do I need to know for the SAT?

    SAT tests math proficiency in:

    • Algebra
    • Data Analysis
    • Geometry
    • Trigonometry
    • Advanced Math

In Algebra, students should be able to solve equations and inequalities, analyze quadratic equations, and work with systems of equations, polynomials, and exponents.

Problem-Solving and Data Analysis focuses on interpreting charts, graphs, ratios, percentages, and solving real-world problems using data.

Geometry questions will evaluate students’ understanding of shapes, angles, area, volume, and coordinate geometry, including distance and slope calculations.

Trigonometry involves applying sine, cosine, and tangent functions to solve right triangle problems.

Advanced Math covers working with functions, rational expressions, radicals, and exploring polynomials and their properties.

  • What is the difference between the ACT and SAT math?

The main differences between the ACT and SAT math sections are in the scope of topics and the question types.

    Other differences include:

    • Math topics: The SAT math section emphasizes algebra and data analysis, while the ACT math section includes a broader range of topics like geometry and trigonometry.
    • Format: The SAT includes more multi-step problems, while the ACT generally has more direct questions.
    • Scoring: The SAT math section is scored from 200–800, and the ACT math section is scored on a scale of 1–36.
    • Allotted Time: In the SAT, students have 1.5 minutes per question, whereas the ACT gives about 1 minute per question, but the SAT is a longer test overall.
    • Tools: The ACT allows calculators for all math questions, while the SAT only allows them in one section.
  • What is a good math score on SAT?

A good math score on the SAT typically depends on the schools the student is applying to. The SAT math section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800.

The national average score is around 500-510.

Generally, a score of 600-650 is considered competitive for many colleges and universities.

More selective schools may expect scores of 700 or higher.

Top-tier universities may expect scores in the 750-800 range.

If the student is aiming for merit-based scholarships, a score of 650 or above may increase their chances.
