Each month we are going to spotlight one of our A+ instructors! Our staff members come from different backgrounds and have a variety of views on math, education, and life.

Our October instructor spotlight is Sadhana Anantha!

What did you do before Mathnasium?
"I was and still am a high school student at Enloe High School getting ready to graduate as Class of 2016. Before Mathnasium, I worked in a couple of labs at Duke University and NC State University as a research intern with a concentration in the fields of hydrogeochemistry and developmental neurology. I was also a Mathnasium student from 2009 to 2010!"

Where do you want to attend college and what's your intended major?
I hope to major in Biochemistry and Business Administration, and I am currently in the process of college applications.

What is your biggest academic achievement?
"Though not the most prestigious award I possess, The Presidential Education Gold Award of Outstanding Excellence was the first national award that I was given. As one of the 3 students awarded from Wake County, I was glad to represent North Carolina in the slew of candidates from across the nation. This award started my enthusiasm to continue to excel further than the academic expectations expected for me. The award still serves as a reminder to continue to push my boundaries to grow intellectually."

What has been your biggest academic challenge?
"I have always been a student interested in the STEM fields. It was hard for me to open up and explore subjects that I thought had no relation to the fields I wanted to pursue. However, I learned that the most capable people are able to combine various concepts to create novel ideas in the field they strive for excellence in. I hope to be open to moer subjects and be able to chase innovation through my exploration."

What is your favorite subject? (Other than math!)
"Biochemistry and Molecular Biology!"

What is your favoring things about working at Mathnasium?
"I love seeing students who once detested coming in to Mathnasium are now actively asking questions about how forumula came about and real world applications of concepts of the math they are learning. From memorizing formulas and struggling through applications of concepts to understanding proofs and learning real time problems, students grow tremendously!"

What is your favorite color?
"Sea Green"

What is your dream job?
"I hope to pursue medical school and go on to either become a physician or explore research fields. I look forward to my experience in medical school to see which healthcare careers I am interested in. The type of atmosphere I want to work in is a highly stressful and exciting setting such as a trauma center or surgery room. It would be amazing to lead a team to save lives."

What are some of your hobbies and pastimes?
"As a nature-lover, I love bicycling and hiking through Hemlock Bluffs. I also love to read case studies from surprising experiments such as the Phantom Arm Studies done at the University of California- San Diego. I love singing and covering old and recent songs as mashups."

What are your favorite words of wisdom?
"Success is not measured by the position someone has reached in life, but by the obstacles he or she has overcome while trying to succeed." (Booker T. Washington)

"The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do." (Walter Bagehot)

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad." (Miles Kington)

"Dogs have masters, cats have staff." (A random epiphany)
