Making Math Make Sense To Kids... and Parents: “Mathing With Your Kids”
On Sunday, May 25th, we had the pleasure of hosting a special event at Mathnasium of Atascadero: “Mathing With Your Kids,” led by none other than our very own center co-owner and the creator of the Mathnasium Method, Larry Martinek.
Larry—who is not only the founder of Mathnasium, but also a teacher and a father—spent the day working side-by-side with parents and students. His mission? To show families that you don’t have to be a “math person” to help your child succeed in math.
Throughout the day, Larry shared the power of "Natural Language"—a simple yet transformative way to talk about math in everyday terms. Whether it was fractions, number sense, or problem-solving strategies, he guided parents through techniques that made math feel accessible, engaging, and even fun.
Seeing the man behind the method in action was inspiring for all of us. Larry’s warmth, wisdom, and genuine love for teaching reminded us why we do what we do: to make math make sense for every child.
This event wasn’t just about learning equations—it was about building confidence, connection, and a shared sense of curiosity between parent and child. And if the energy in the room was any indication, we’re already looking forward to the next one.
Thank you, Larry, for spending the day with us—and to all the families who came out to grow together. Math is more than numbers. It’s a language of love, logic, and learning.
