Today's "Success in Math" Story

Aug 14, 2015 | Belden Village

Meet Alicia. Alicia came to Mathnasium in May of 2014. She was homeschooled along with her 2 younger brothers. While her brothers seemed to excell in math, Alicia was struggling in math and seemed to need some tutoring and remediation. She was at the end of her 5th grade year and she took our Level 4 assessment on which she scored a 64%. This indicated that she was almost a year behind grade level. We developed Alicia's individualized Learning Plan and began working with her. She attended Mathnasium about 3 times per week for an hour each time. We found that she tended to rush through her work without checking it and had some trouble with a few basic concepts. After 3 months, she scored a 93% on her Level 4 post-assessment! She subsequently moved through Level 5 and then Level 6. By March of 2015, she was starting Level 7 at 67% - halfway through her 6th grade year. By the end of June, Alicia took the Level 7 post-assessment and scored a 94%!

In 14 months, this struggling math student covered 4 levels of curriculum and is now entering 7th grade at the 8th grade level! We could not be more proud of her accomplishments or more happy with the fit for her with Mathnasium Curriculum.

By the way, both of her brothers continue with Mathnasium also, and they are both excelling as well!
