1. What is the most common thing you see in new students coming to Mathnasium for the first time?

A: Most often, they lack confidence, they typically know aspects of the math concepts they are learning but they don't fully understand, so when they see a concept they don't know where to start.

2. If there was one thing you could tell parents before they bring their student to Mathnasium what would it be?

A: Trust the process, it may take time to see results but if the student wants to understand and are willing to learn, they will make progress. Each student is different and results are unique to them.

3. What things do the most successful students have in common?

A: They have a positive attitude, and a desire to improve and gain a better understanding.

4. What are some of the ways you teach math to your students?

A: Connecting new concepts to concepts they already understand, leading them in the process through socratic questioning and deeper understanding.

We are very hands on at Mathnasium. We use fraction tiles, nets, counters, base ten blocks, number lines, dice, clocks and more. It is very important for us to meet the kids where they are and pull out all the stops to help them better understand a concept.

5. What do you think is the coolest thing about Mathnasium?

A: The excitement from students as they gain confidence in their math abilities, and when they come into their session happily announcing their new successes in school that they are proud of.

Those aha moments that pop up throughout a session when finally, a concept makes sense and connects with them. Their faces light up and you know as an instructor that they truly 'got it' as they teach it back to you.
