WIth Valentine’s Day being celebrated on the 14th, February is the month of love. If you are planning on spending Valentine’s Day with your little loved ones, we’ve got some inexpensive ideas on how you and the family can celebrate the holiday, ways that, of course, include math.

City or Country Stargazing. Grab a blanket, some snacks, pile everyone into the car, and head somewhere you can see the stars for this night adventure. This simple night out is a great way to spend time unplugging as well as sneak math into your Valentine’s Day. Study constellations or print out a map of them, bring them with you and challenge your student to find them all and count the number of stars in each constellation.
Playing Pool. Pool can seem like it's just a game for adults but it can be very fun, and educational, for older kids too. Take your family to the coolest arcade in the neighborhood and stop by the pool table where they can learn about geometry, trigonometry, and physics. Math helps you predict where balls will go when you hit them from various angles and distances and teaching your kids this will not only help them become better pool players, but it will also help them apply math to real life situations!
Watching a movie. Many people want to go out on Valentine’s Day, but if you and you and your family are looking for a cozy night-in, watching a family friendly movie that involves math night be a better way to treat your loved ones on Valentine’s Day.
