1. What is the most common thing you see in new students coming to Mathnasium for the first time?
A: They lack confidence and are surprised they have fun during their assessment session.
2. If there was one thing you could tell parents before they bring their student to Mathnasium what would it be?
A: Have patience with your child's math. If math has been hard, a new school year will not produce different results. If they are avoiding their homework, it is usually not lack of effort but is lack of the skills needed. Mathnasium does make a difference! For kids that are advanced, we enhance their critical thinking skills too by stretching their mind to a deeper understanding.
3. What things do the most successful students have in common?
A: They come twice a week with the desire to learn. They ask questions and listen to new ways to work the problem. They are motivated both by rewards but more by the math understanding and how it helps them in school.
4. What are some of the ways you teach math to your students?
A: In addition to the learning plan developed specifically to each student's math ability, we use manipulatives such as math wraps, fraction bars, and lots of games to provide both visual and hands-on learning.
5. What do you think is the coolest thing about Mathnasium?
A: #1. Seeing kids who "Hate math" say "I don't hate it now that I understand it!"
