Mathnasium Prepares Students for Long Term Success & Higher Education

Nov 1, 2019 | Chula Vista

Many students and parents believe that Mathnasium and our services are only for students who may have fallen behind or are otherwise struggling with their math. While it is certainly true that we help many students who are currently having a hard time in math, or have been behind for a while, we also have many students who are excellent mathematicians.

Because Mathnasium creates customized and tailored curriculum and instruction, we can support all students' enrichment needs, including those of our students who are already excelling and come to Mathnasium looking for extra immersion outside of school so they can keep growing.

While we love all of our students and all of their unique reasons for being with us, parents, there are important reasons why students benefit from our services here at Mathnasium!

Even if we are doing well in our current grade, there are specific difficult transitions in math curriculum at certain grades. The transition from third grade to fourth grade math brings the challenging introduction to factors, multiples, and fractions; seventh grade marks a move away from arithmetic and towards algebra; and IM III (typically 11th grade) is an incredibly rigorous course that can be very fast-paced and hard to adjust to for many students, as it combines the most challenging concepts of algebra, pre-calculus, graphing, etc. When we do hit those difficult transitions or encounter setbacks, it can be demoralizing or discouraging, and many students will suffer a hit to their confidence in school, and may not be open to the long-term commitment of a learning center. Also, if we have been regularly supported by a learning center or math tutor at Mathnasium, we will not be as discouraged at that setback, or take it personally, because we know our local math learning center and math experts are here at our disposal.

For students who are ahead, Mathnasium can not only provide them more rigor and challenge in their math enrichment, but also set them up to succeed in more challenging tracks at school - GATE testing, advanced math classes in 6th-8th grade, or Honors/AP/IB classes in high school are all accelerated programs designed to challenge and enrich students who have strong backgrounds in math, and also vastly increase students' probability of moving on to and succeeding in higher education. While Mathnasium can support students in these tracks to keep them at the top of their game, regular attendance and consistent hard work with us here at Mathnasium over time can also get other students up to date and help them prepare and improve their shot at these awesome programs!
