Believe in Yourself!

Jo Boaler's third article on YouCubed's, "Think It Up" section titled, "When You Believe In Yourself Your Brain Operates Differently" couldn't be more true!

Here at Mathnasium, we believe this same philosophy, and encourage this thinking through the teaching moments with our students. Every day students feel successful and become more confident, because the math is at the level that they need, even if that means it's a year or more behind, on track, or ahead. We know that math builds on itself every day, so without the fundamental building blocks, the wall of knowledge won't hold up; and on the other end of the spectrum, if a kid is bored in class they will lose interest and motivation. Their confidence soars when they get to experience the satisfaction of completing a page to full accuracy, and then experiencing the celebration with the instructors about how smart and capable they are!

My favorite quote from this article is, "Students with a fixed minset are more likely to give up easily, whereas students with a growth mindset are persistent and keep going even when work is hard." We instill the confidence in all of our kids that no math knowledge is out of reach, as long as you're willing to work for it.

Thank you to Jo Boaler for another amazing article - please read it in it's entirety for yourself - "When You Believe In Yourself Your Brain Operates Differently" . Look forward to posting about the upcoming article next week!
