There are fresh faces at Mathnasium of Great Neck. New center owners Karen and Alan Flyer are eager to bring fun and effective supplementary math programs to community children in grades 1-12. Karen will serve as Center Director of the Great Neck location.
“I am thrilled to be joining the family business here at Mathnasium, bringing my decades of experience in marketing and small business and non-profit consulting, as well as my love of math and my passion for working with children, to my new venture. My husband Alan and his team of instructors have been helping kids succeed in math since 2011 at the Mathnasium of Roslyn, the first Mathnasium Learning Center in Nassau County—and a perennial Top Performing Center in the Mathnasium organization. He and I look forward to growing the Great Neck Center into the go-to resource for students in the Great Neck, Douglaston, and Little Neck areas looking to achieve mathematical mastery,” said Karen Flyer.
The math-only learning center at 11 Great Neck Road in Great Neck fills in knowledge gaps, keeps students caught up in school, and makes learning math fun. Using the Mathnasium Method™, knowledgeable instructors teach face-to-face, providing the attention and support children need. A unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques ensures that any child can learn to excel at math. Mathnasium also now offers Mathnasium@home, an online learning experience which closely mimics one in center, for those families who prefer this delivery method of instruction.

This school year in particular, programs like Mathnasium’s are even more important due to the “COVID Slide” students have suffered as a result of the sudden shutdown of schools and the lackluster learning which took place remotely during the pandemic. These preliminary COVID Slide estimates suggest students could begin fall 2020 with roughly 50% of the learning gains in math from the prior year relative to a typical school year.
