There's a certain belief these days that kids need a break from learning over the summertime. We believe there is some merit to this idea, but it turns out kids love to use their brains and fire up the old math neurons when given creative and thoughtful problem-solving to do!
The Mathnasium tutors showed up in full force at the YMCA at North River in Hixson, Tennessee to put on a Morning Math Party for their campers. The children explored fractals by creating the Famous Lego Serpinski Pyramid. "Wow, I can't believe it works," said one unnamed camper as the pyramids stacked higher and higher. Although they did not achieve the coveted Level 5 pyramid, the pyramids were certainly a crowd favorite.

Besides the puzzles, our own Mr. A+ was able to carve out some time from his busy schedule to make a surprise visit. The outpouring of high 5s created a veritable stampede that caught him off guard: "Fortunately, I am constructed of medium-density foam which created a bit of a cushion from the swarm of children. Usually I'm waving from the back of a truck in parades though, so I can't complain. It is way more fun to interact close up," declared Mr A+ before he drove off in his mathmobile.

This was our second year hosting this event and we are already excited to come back next year. Thank you YMCA of North River for letting us get outside of our math learning center for the day to have some fun with the kids!
