Mathnasium Can Help Your Student Prepare for Standardized Exams

Feb 3, 2019 | Kendall

At Mathnasium, our mission is to create lifelong problem solvers.  We strive to build a strong foundation of mathematical reasoning skills that will last with our students beyond their school years.  This development of strong computational and critical thinking skills helps our students prepare for the numerous standardized math exams that they must complete throughout their years of formal education.

Students enrolled in a Florida public school in grades 3-8 must take a Mathematics FSA (Florida Standards Assessment) and students taking Algebra and Geometry must take a corresponding EOC (End-of-Course Exam). According to the Florida Department of Education, “the primary purpose of Florida’s K–12 statewide assessment program is to measure students’ achievement of Florida’s education standards.” Key concepts being tested on these standardized exams include Number Operations, Algebraic Thinking, Fractions, Measurement, Data, Geometry, Ratio and Proportional Relationships, Expressions and Equations, Statistics and Probability, the Number System, and Functions.

Mathnasium can also help your child prepare for the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) and the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test).  These exams are widely chosen admission tests for numerous independent schools. The ISEE is designed to measure students’ verbal and quantitative reasoning skills in grades 4-11 seeking admission to grades 5-12 in an independent school.  The SSAT is designed to measure students’ verbal, math, and reading skills for students currently in grades 3-11 who are seeking admission to grades 4-12.

If your child is looking to prepare for a college admission exam such as the SAT or ACT (or even the PSAT which can help with scholarship opportunities!), Mathnasium can help your child achieve their goals.  We help students build a strong mathematical foundation supporting their understanding of higher-level mathematical concepts that facilitates their success on these college admission exams.

At Mathnasium, we don’t believe in rote memorization of tables and procedures -- we teach kids how to truly understand math.  We want our students to have the confidence in their own abilities without feeling dependent on a calculator (which are not allowed for the majority of these exams).  Our excellent team of qualified instructors can help your child prepare for their upcoming standardized exam.  Give us a call (305) 274-3700 for more information or to schedule a no-obligation first visit!
