Summer Math Program Options for Kendall Elementary Students
Numerical Fluency: our students learn effective techniques for basic addition and subtraction facts. After mastering the ten basic prerequisites, we scaffold using word problems, thinking in groups, and visual/manipulative aids.
Multiplication Fact Fluency: with an eye on developing long-term mathematical thinking skills, we focus on scalable strategies that go above and beyond merely memorization.
Fraction Concepts: we use visual aids and manipulatives to teach for understanding! Skills include: defining fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers, wholes vs. parts, comparing fractions, and basic operations with fractions.
Word Problems: all aspects of our curriculum incorporate problem solving - it is a crucial skill. We teach techniques for translating words to equations, proportional reasoning, and algebraic thinking.
