Bizz Buzz and Other Travel Math Activities

It takes very little time for “Vacation Brain” to creep in over the short span of a winter break. Sure, a little dust never hurt anybody, but if something not-so-locked-down gets a little dusty/hasn’t been reviewed/looked at/dealt with then it becomes the beginning of trouble.  Use this time to get caught up on skills to improve speed and accuracy of math facts:

• Math Fact games online or on apps

• Go old school with triangular flash cards with addition and multiplication and sort the ones your mathlete knows from the ones they don’t to focus where to practice

• Buzz and Sparkle Skip counting games, where you hit a multiple and say Buzz (EX: Skip count by 5s: 1,2,3,4,BUZZ,6,7,8,9,BUZZ). You may remember anther version of this from college. ;-).

• With older siblings mix in a second multiple for Bizz Buzz (EX: 5s and 3s. 1,2,BIZZ, 4, BUZZ, BIZZ, 7,8,BIZZ, BUZZ,...when you get to a common multiple you say BIZZ BUZZ.

This will keep the car ride cruising and adds variety to other travel favorites such as I Spy or the license plate game.
