It takes very little time for “Vacation Brain” to creep in over the short span of a winter break. Sure, a little dust never hurt anybody, but if something not-so-locked-down gets a little dusty/hasn’t been reviewed/looked at/dealt with then it becomes the beginning of trouble. Use this time to get caught up on skills to improve speed and accuracy of math facts:
Math Fact games online or on apps
Go old school with triangular flash cards with addition and multiplication and sort the ones your mathlete knows from the ones they don’t to focus where to practice
Buzz and Sparkle Skip counting games, where you hit a multiple and say Buzz (EX: Skip count by 5s: 1,2,3,4,BUZZ,6,7,8,9,BUZZ). You may remember anther version of this from college. ;-).
With older siblings mix in a second multiple for Bizz Buzz (EX: 5s and 3s. 1,2,BIZZ, 4, BUZZ, BIZZ, 7,8,BIZZ, BUZZ,...when you get to a common multiple you say BIZZ BUZZ.
This will keep the car ride cruising and adds variety to other travel favorites such as I Spy or the license plate game.
