What Do We Believe at Mathnasium?

Mar 28, 2021 | Littleton

When I first went to our Home Office in Los Angeles in 2014 for my initial training as a Mathnasium Center Director, what impressed me most deeply were the principles upon which the company was founded: People, Systems and Humanity. That people was the first guiding principle hit me so hard, I started crying. I had just ended a career with an organization one would think had people first becuase it was founded to serve young women, but my experience as a staff member had not reflected that people were valued. At least I had not felt valued. It was disheartening and I had lost faith in corporate America . . . until that September day when Peter Markovitz, co-founder and former CEO of Mathnasium, stepped before our group and gave his talk about the importance of people.

Since that time, I have found the company's guiding principles to hold true. You can read more in this article,  How Mathnasium's Mission and Guiding Principles Affect Your Experience at Mathnasium of Littleton. Also, our home office recently published an article, Mathnasium Beliefs, which highlights how we as an organization feel about math and about learning.

Our team here in Littleton spent two years defining our our core values and mission which I would like to share with you here.

Purpose: We change lives through math!

This is literal. We see it every day when a child, who seven months earlier walked through our doors, head down, eyes averted, not wanting to be there to take a math test, jubilantly shows us an "A" on a math test or tells us they are helping their peers in math class. Or when a mom, with tears in her eyes, shares how her middle schooler who used to hate math and school, is doing better in all classes, not just math and says she wishes she had found us sooner. It happens every day.

Mission: To help every child reach their potential in math!

Eveyone can learn math, and everyone can be better at math. It just takes meeting them where they're at, teaching in a way that makes sense to them, and having the patience to allow the growth to take place in the right time for that specific child.

Values:

  1. Education – We believe everyone can learn.

  2. Fun – We are the funnest place to learn math.

  3. Integrity – We do the right thing, every time.

  4. Compassion – We meet people where they are and we care.

  5. Communication – We say what needs to be said in the kindest way possible (we openly collaborate)

  6. Teamwork – We work together to support everyone.

These values are important to me as Center Director and to our team who believe in them deeply. They make a difference in the experience at our center and I invite you to set up a time to come see for yourself what a difference Mathnasium can make in your child's life.
