Give me a “M” … for math education!

Across the country, elementary schools are enjoying Mathnasium Math Nights, participating in math and STEM-focused games and activities. “Our Math Nights provide a unique opportunity for students and parents to work together on math games and activities for a hands-on learning experience like no other,” says Karen Lossing, Executive Director, Mathnasium of Mesa North. “We focus on building confidence in math for students of all skill levels in a way that is fun, engaging and inspirational. We also empower parents to support their children on the road to mastering math and developing a true love for the subject.”

Mathnasium puts the ‘M’ in STEM education

In June 2016, Mathnasium was named the official “M” in the National PTA’s STEM + Families initiative. As a founding sponsor of the initiative, Mathnasium supports the National PTA in the deployment of STEM + Families Math Night Grants to 35 recipients in an academic year across the country. For over a decade, Mathnasium has provided math instruction to students in elementary through high school. It is the only learning center in the nation focused solely on math education to help students lessen the stress and fear they may experience around the subject. Mathnasium students grow more excited and confident about math – and their grades reflect that.

Math Night participants see that math can be fun and learn to appreciate math again. As a former educator, school administrator, and a parent, these events are near and dear to my heart because I can see the transformation in just a few hours,” says Lossing who operates the neighborhood-based Mathnasium of Mesa North with her husband Steve, and daughter, Libby. “We believe in building a relationship with our students and their families and providing fun, trusting environments where our students can boost their confidence in math that then transcends to other areas of their life.”
