Don’t wait for the year to get going without a plan! It is amazing how quickly time flies once kids start back to school. Having a strong plan in place can help avoid unnecessary struggles or stress. Here are some tips to starting the year off right!
-
Help your student get organized. Most students, including those in high school, really struggle coming up with a good organization plan for their classes.Check with your school to see if the teachers have requirements for binders or notebooks. Then make some labels, create some art work for the covers or other fun activities to help your child keep things in their place. Take the time before the assignments start rolling in to avoid missed homework pitfalls.
-
Get the supplies ready and have backup supplies at home. Kids lose and forget things. So having an extra set of school supplies at home can really help alleviate some frustrating evenings running around trying to find supplies to do homework or a project.
-
Start getting everyone back on school schedule. Summer usually means laid back schedules and varied sleeping and eating patterns. Help your kids by shifting them back to a school schedule for sleeping and eating. Start about two weeks out and ease them back into a routine.
-
Get your family calendar set with the important dates for the coming school year. Check the school website and get a copy of the school calendar for the coming year. Then put these dates on your family calendar so you are all set. Whether paper calendars or a technological color coded app the family shares, a common calendar is a great tool.
-
Gather the papers. Of course, no new school year is complete without a mountain of paperwork for the school. Immunization records, physicals, possibly previous report cards (if you are changing districts).
Start planning early. Keep an eye out starting in mid-July so you can get the sales and stores aren’t out of options.
