From Student to Instructor: The Summer Experience

Apr 25, 2019 | North Alpharetta

JoJo Oréus is one of Mathnasium of North Alpharetta's many personable and effective instructors; however, few know that she was once a Mathnasium student! JoJo attended Mathnasium as a student for numerous years, and she stayed active at the center throughout each summer. This experience not only made her a skilled math student, but also a primary source in evaluating Mathnasium's summer program.

JoJo quickly asserted that her summer experiences at Mathnasium of North Alpharetta were greatly beneficial in the following year at school. "I always knew what math classes I'd be taking the next year," she said, "and Mathnasium helped me prepare by giving me work in those subjects." She continued to state that her summers at Mathnasium "made the whole next year easier."

However, JoJo's positive experience did not only extend to success in school: "It was actually fun!" she declared. As a student, JoJo enjoyed having the company and assistance of the instructors in high school. "It was exciting to talk to older and cooler kids," she elaborated, "and it was nice to get out of the house." Many of our instructors today are high school students as well, providing current and prospective Mathnasium students with similar opportunities of mentorship from those who were recently in their shoes. In fact, you can read about Mathnasium of North Alpharetta's instructors on our Team Page!

When push comes to shove, JoJo would absolutely recommend the Mathnasium summer to others. "Being able to practice skills made the whole year easier," she concluded. "After all, consistency is key."

Today, JoJo excels in her pre-calculus class, a year above her grade level in math. With the Mathnasium summer experience under their belts, your students can do the same!
