Q: What is a comprehensive assessment?
A: Mathnasium of Parker offers a free diagnostic skills assessment. This is a very thorough look at a student's skills for a given grade level, and is comprised of both verbal and written questions. Most students take an assessment before beginning their Mathnasium membership.
Q: What things do you learn about a student when they take a comprehensive assessment?
A: Mathnasium's assessments pinpoint where a student's strengths are, as well as, areas that need more work. Most students have concepts and topics that they did not completely master, both from the current year, as well as previous years, which create skill gaps.
Q: What is a customized learning plan?
A: Every child is unique and so each student at Mathnasium has a customized learning plan based off their assessment, as well as, input from parents. Mathnasium's goal is that each student we work with has a full understanding of every key grade level topic, can move forward with confidence, and has the skills to be successful.
Q: How do you gauge progress?
A: The end of each topic has a "mastery check" which is similar to a short quiz. We expect an 85% or higher score on these for a topic to be considered mastered. We continually re-assess students to make sure that they do have mastery, as well as, retention. About every 2 months, students are given a mini-assessment to ensure that they still know and understand the concepts that have been covered. A full post assessment, similar to their original pre-assessment is given when students complete their learning plan.
