Gifted and talented students that regularly are ahead of their class, and pick new concepts quickly are always looking for a new challenge to satisfy their curiosity. Those students can quickly become bored and dis-interested if their needs are not met, luckily extra-curricular activities can ususally help both in school and outside of school.
According to the National Association for Gifted Children "more than 7 in 10 teachers that were surveyed noted that their brightest students were not challenged or given a chance to “thrive” in their classrooms. It’s more than just giving students a challenge in classrooms: Gifted programming positively influences students’ futures. Several longitudinal studies have shown that gifted programs have a positive effect on students’ post-secondary plans."
During the summer months some parents send their kids to summer camp the day school is out and do not return until the first school day in Fall. Other parents prefer to diconnect their kids from any intelectual pursuits and use the time for recreational activities. Some parents I know do a little bit of both.
Here, at Mathnasium, due to the individualized approach taken to develop a student's learning plan, we can accommodate the various needs that families are looking for: whether it's catching up assisstance, enrichment, home school assisstance, etc.
At Mathnasium we meet students where they are and help them get where they want to be. Many advanced students do well in school but do not fulfill their full potentnial. We help those students fill any gaps they might have so they can build on their solid foundations and leap ahead. Furthermore our programs allow for gifted students to continue be challenged outside of the classroom.
Math is also an important part of college including entrance exams so when a child is helped to reach their full potential with math, they are also on their way to reaching their full potential in other areas of their lives.
