Halloween occurs every year on October 31st. People all around the world celebrate Halloween. Halloween is said to have roots in ancient Celtic celebrations originating in Scotland and Ireland. People at that time were frightened of evil so to scare any evil away they would dress up in costumes and make lots of noise in the streets. When the Catholic Church came, they brought their celebration of All Saints Day, also known as All Hallows Day, that was celebrated on November 1st. Over time, the two celebrations merged together and the name was eventually shortened to Halloween. Along with the name change came new traditions such as trick-or-treating and carving jack-o-lanterns. Whether you dress up as a scary ghost, a witch, princess, or your favorite superhero, remember to stay safe this halloween season.
