The Essential Relationship Between Leadership and Confidence

Oct 27, 2020 | Schertz

Many things contribute to great leadership, but one of the most vital, and often the foundation, is confidence. There are many aspects of leadership, but without confidence, real leadership cannot truly exist.

Leaders can learn how to be decisive, great communicators, and effective problem solvers. And yet without genuine confidence in his or her abilities, authentic leadership is unobtainable.

“Self-confidence is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows. Trying to teach leadership without first building confidence is like building a house on a foundation of sand. It may have a nice coat of paint, but it is ultimately shaky at best.” - Francisco Dao

Leaders who exhibit confidence have a tendency to:

  • Set goals and are motivated to achieve them
  • Have a “can do” attitude about whatever challenges may arise
  • Even in challenging situations, have the ability to put things into perspective
  • Take risks, calculated risks
  • Accept feedback, which helps them to further develop and grow

Confidence is what separates great leaders from average ones. Never underestimate how essential the relationship between confidence and leadership is. Instilling confidence in your students now, at home and in school, will lead them to be better leaders in the future! And by working together, parents, teachers, and the staff here at Mathnasium, can provide your child with the necessary skills needed to set them on a path to successful leadership.
