Q: How does Mathnasium celebrate its student's success?
A: Mathnasium of Spokane celebrates student success by giving students lots of opportunities to not only demonstrate their understanding, but also display it! This is done through our brag board, which is on the wall, in the center of our teaching area for all to see. On this board, we have our mastery check tracker, which keeps track of how many mastery checks have been completed in our center during the month and displays a goal that, if our students reach, they get a prize at the end of the month! We also use this board to show off the successes of our students, like high-scoring assessments, awards, and art. Along with the brag board, we also have the Student of the Month board, which displays the student that was chosen by our instructors for their exemplary behavior and work ethic. - Gus
Q: Tell me about student’s reactions to having their work on the brag board.
A: Students love to be recognized for their accomplishments. We put aced assignments and tests on the Brag Board so students can feel confident and have positive reinforcement. Our students love to point out their good work to our instructors! - Katrina
Q: What kind of work gets put up?
A: Students can bring in tests, quizzes, or assignments from school that they improved on or got a great score on. Especially when the work is on a topic they struggled with, we love to celebrate their progress by displaying the results of their hard work! - Esther
Q: Do you have a favorite memory of the Brag Board?
A: My favorite memories of the Brag board are celebrating students' Math tests from school. I have had many students that came to Mathnasium struggling with school and feeling very discouraged. A few months later, they start receiving A's or B's on math tests for the first time in a very long time. It is a pretty magical feeling! To show the student how proud Mathnasium is of them is something I always want to make time for. -Sara Harmon, COO
