Stress Isn’t A Factor In Math

Oct 1, 2020 | Stone Oak

Stress isn’t a factor in math so why let it be a factor in your child’s education! Many parents wait to get their child math help until the subject is already accompanied by stress, frustration, and tears. When parents wait to seek out help for their children until after their children have been struggling for years, the gap in knowledge continues to grow.

As we have discussed in previous blogs, people in general do not like to be confused or misunderstand the task at hand so when a child communicates that they “do not care” about math we beg to differ. For children it is much easier, and even more socially acceptable, to not care about math rather than to admit that you do not understand it.

All of this to say, the earlier that you can spot the confusion and respond with the proper help the better off everyone will be. Kids give very clear signals when they are stressed, we just need to make sure that we are paying attention.

Here are some signs to look out for:

  • Can’t maintain eye contact

  • Doesn’t want to be touched

  • Shows inflexible, uncooperative behavior

  • They may want you closer than normal, or become clingy

  • Holding on to a comfort item
