The Spooky Season is Here and Filled with Fun Facts

Oct 22, 2021 | Stone Oak

Halloween is just around the corner, meaning it’s time for trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, and dressing up as your favorite or most spooky character. When you think of Halloween, things like ghosts, candy, costumes, come to mind, not math. But there are plenty of cool number facts about Halloween!

And we’ve included them below for you to share with your friends and family:

  • The largest pumpkin on record weighed 2,625 pounds. The record was set in 2016.
  • 50% percent of kids prefer to receive chocolate candy for Halloween, compared with 24% who prefer non-chocolate candy and 10% who prefer gum.
  • In 2019, 72% of parents admitted to stealing candy from their kids.
  • 41 million is the approximate number of potential trick or treaters that may be out and about this year on Halloween night.  (Don’t worry—they won’t all be in your neighborhood!)

We here at Mathnasium wish you a safe and candy-filled halloween. This October, may your treats outnumber your tricks! Have a happy, mathy Halloween!
