The Mathnasium Advantage

Since 2002, Mathnasium locations across the globe have been transforming the way children understand and appreciate math through the Mathnasium Method™.  Continue reading to learn more about this powerful approach to teaching.

We start with a Comprehensive, Expert Evaluation to create a Customized Learning Plan.  Using both oral and verbal diagnostics, we identify students’ strengths and weaknesses and create an individualized learning plan that targets gaps in math education.  Students work through their learning plan at their own pace, allowing us to spend more time on concepts that are showing difficulty mastering.

Our instructors are Math-Only Specialists that use Proven teaching techniques. During the hiring process, each of our Mathnasium Instructors goes through a rigorous math screening, including assessments to evaluate their math knowledge as well as their capability to explain complex math concepts in a way that makes sense to children.  Those that pass the math screening and background checks are trained to teach by building on math knowledge students already have and using mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written methods to support the different learning styles.  Using Socratic questioning and direct teaching, instructors confirm each topic is mastered before progressing to the next related.

Using Face-to-Face Instruction in a Confidence-Building Environment, we ensure Concept Mastery.  Whether online through Mathnasium@home or in person in the center, all our students receive live, face-to-face instruction.  By building on math knowledge students already know, we boost their confidence in taking on new or challenging concepts.  Our reward system and caring instructors motivate and encourage children.

We want to be there when the learning happens.  To provide the support to ensure students are truly understanding the topics, there is No Mathnasium homework.  Students are often overwhelmed and frustrated with assignments they have from school and we want to avoid overloading and frustrating students.  However, just because we do not assign homework, doesn’t mean we don’t help with homework!  We provide School Support in multiple ways.  During every visit of their Mathnasium session, students are allotted a portion of their time to work through challenging homework problems.  We also provide test prep to give students that extra boost before an exam.  With written parental consent, we also communicate with their math teacher to promote class objectives.

At Mathnasium, we do more than teach math—we build the skills and confidence needed for school and for life.  Drop by our center to see for yourself the Mathnasium Advantage and how we are changing lives through math.
