Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Sommer Sprowls

Lead Instructor
Sommer is a passionate enthusiast of both math and art, but that wasn’t always the case. Early on, Sommer struggled with math and remembers sobbing through timed tests on multiplication facts. Everything changed in middle school when an observant teacher showed her that math didn’t have to be painfully boring rote memorization, but instead could be used for creative problem solving, almost like magic. Sommer graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in 2011 with a BA in mathematics. She has been with Mathnasium since 2015, and she is currently managing our @home platform.

Devin Gardner

Instructor
Devin joined Mathnasium in 2016. He has extensive tutoring experience, dating back to his undergrad days at Purdue University where he majored in actuarial science & statistics. In 2010, he received a Masters Degree in information science from the University of Pittsburgh. Devin has always had a passion for math, and loves to share his enthusiasm with eager young minds. Known to inject a corny math joke or two into his teaching, his students give him as many eye rolls as high fives for a job well done!

Daniel Florentino

Lead Instructor
Daniel first joined our team while an undergrad at Washington and Jefferson. After obtaining his BA in Mathematics, he has immediately put his degree to good use at Mathnasium! Students love Daniel's sense of humor, and his love for math is contagious.

Nancy Brutt

Instructor
Nancy has been with Mathnasium since 2014. She home-schooled all three of her children through high school, and she continues to teach home-schooled students in high school sciences, as well as SAT prep. Nancy has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Grove City College, and after working as an engineer, she became focused on teaching! Nancy uses her talent, experience, and teaching ability to help students of all ages and abilities to reach new heights!

Michelle Wheatley

Instructor
Michelle loves math and kids, so she was very happy to join Mathnasium in 2022. After struggling with 2nd grade math, attending a math camp that summer saved her from falling behind, which she credits to changing the course of her higher education and career. In high school, she earned an 800 on the math portion of the SATs after many, many hours of studying. She graduated from Marymount University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. Michelle worked various roles in the energy industry before taking time off to raise her kids.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
