Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. CenterDirectorAmar Tailor, Center Director/Owner

Amar is the Owner at Mathnasium of Middletown, Delaware.   A graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management, As a parent of two school age children, Amar saw a need for a learning center that would not only help kids that were struggling, like his own son, but also a place where kids could get ahead.  Mathnasium was the perfect fit for Amar and Middletown.   Amar and his team pride themselves on delivering an amazing learning experience to all students as well as making sure parents needs are taken care of.   The combination of serving both the needs of the student and the parent result in an amazing experience!

 Elena Groom, Lead Instructor

Elena recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Goldey Beacom College, where she was a member of the Alpha-Chi National Honor Society. She has previously worked as a summer camp counselor and loves working with kids.

Favorite Math Topic: Algebra

Favorite Math Joke: "Where do math teachers go on vacation? .......Times Square!"

Hobbies: Spending time with her family and friends, dancing, and helping others.



Jimmy Latavitz, Lead Instructor

Jimmy is currently a student at the University of Delaware, majoring in Secondary Mathematics Education and minoring in Cognitive Science. He is from Smyrna, DE and graduated from Smyrna High School in 2017. Upon graduating college, he hopes to become a high school math teacher in the State of Delaware.

Favorite Math Topic: Calculus, more specifically, the concepts taught in Calculus II.

Favorite Math Joke: "Never trust math teachers who use graph paper...they're always plotting something!"

Hobbies: Hanging out with family, relaxing on the weekends after his long weeks at school, and researching his family's ancestry.


Kelly Fields, Instructor

Although Kelly is a medical office manager by day, she enjoys being a part-time Mathnasium Instructor and connecting with our students. Her favorite part of of working with students is when a student has an "aha!" moment and understands the math concept they have been struggling with. She currently has two high school students at home and has experience homeschooling each of them at different stages of their education. Kelly's motto is "Stay positive and don't give up!  If it doesn't make sense, let's look at it another way."

Favorite Math Topic: Teaching how to count from any number to any number - This important skill helps with so many other skills!

Favorite Math Joke:  "Why was six afraid of seven?  Because seven eight nine!" 

   Hobbies:  Volunteering at her local animal shelter, running 5K races, and eating sushi


William Lee, Instructor

Mr. Will graduated from North Carolina A & T State University in 2001. He currently teaches 8th grade math at Stetson Charter School in Philadelphia, PA. He also coaches football.

Favorite Math Topic:  Algebra 2

Favorite Math Joke: Did you hear about the over-educated circle? It has 360 degrees!

Hobbies: Anything sports related



Nathaniel Li, Instructor

Nate is a senior at York College of PA. When he is not teaching math, he likes to code and cook!

Favorite Math Joke: What do you call a bad Math Joke? Derivative humor!

Hobbies: Computers, ping pong, driving



Mark May, Instructor

Mark is a sophomore finance major at the University of Delaware. When he is not teaching math, he enjoys spending time with friends as well as working on his hobbies.

Favorite Math Topic:  Calculus

Favorite Math Joke: Why do teenagers move in groups of 3 or 5? Because they can't even.

Hobbies: Cycling, reading, fencing, chess



Aubrey Malloy, Instructor


Aubrey is a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis studying architecture and environmental studies. She graduated from St. Andrew's School in Middletown in 2020. When she is not instructing math, Aubrey enjoys drawing, listening to music, and going to the beach.

Favorite math topics: Algebra, Geometry
Favorite math joke: "What kind of math do birds like best? Owlgebra!"
Hobbies: Art, Volleyball, Lacrosse



Chris Kline, Instructor

Chris is a junior at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He graduated from Smyrna High School in 2018. Besides teaching math, he enjoys biking and taking trips to Philly.

Favorite Math Topic:  Algebra

Favorite Math Joke: "I'll do algebra and I'll even do calculus... But graphing is where I draw the line!"

Hobbies: Hanging out with friends, biking, and lifting 


Raaj Pednekar, Instructor

Raaj is a senior at Middletown High School. He is captian of both the Science Olympiad and Math League. He co-founded the school's STEM Organization of America, and is the president of Business Professionals of America.

Favorite Math Topic:  Derivatives in Calculus

Hobbies: Playing sports and online games with his friends

 Ben Tucker, Instructor

Ben recently graduated Middletown High School in 2020. He is also currently teaching at a martial arts school. He is pursuing a career in education.

Favorite Math Topic: Algebra

Favorite Math Joke: Did you hear about the mathematician who was afraid of negative numbers?....He will stop at nothing to avoid them!

Hobbies: Singing, martial arts, and math!



Chris Wellborn, Instructor

Chris graduated from Millersville University and Delaware State University. He currently teaches physics and engineering at William Penn High School full-time.

Favorite Math Topic: Geometry

Favorite Math Joke: Why did the mathmatician spill all of his food in the oven? Because the directions said to "put it in the oven at 180 degrees"

Hobbies: Hiking, drawing, and hanging out with his grandson 


Tara Woodall, Instructor

Tara is a junior at Middletown High School. She enjoys playing clarinet in band and symbols in indoor drumline, as well as extracurriculars Best Buddies and ASL Club. She's looking forward to a future career in Speech Language Pathology.
