New School Year, New Quarter System, and New Challenges!

Sep 12, 2020 | Mira Mesa & Scripps Ranch

The new academic year has begun and many families are busy trying to get back into the swing of things.

This school year is one like we have never experienced before with some students back on campus, some still online, and this new quarter system that has been introduced.

Well what is the difference between a semester and quarter system?

The main difference is how the school is set up to divide the academic year.  Semesters generally split the academic year into two parts; the fall and spring semesters. Quarters split the academic year into four parts; the fall, winter, spring and summer.

So what does this mean for the students that are experiencing a quarter system for the first time this year?

Since the material is divided even further, the pace of the class is going to go faster and students are going to be expected to keep up with it while still getting the hang of either remote learning or transitioning back on-campus.

This is especially alarming for students that are in accelerated or advanced math courses since their coursework is already structured at an accelerated speed!

Mathnasium understands the uncertainty many families may be feeling due to all these new experiences and transitions.
