Betty Yiu Au, Owner and Center Director
Betty is the Owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of Mukilteo. Prior to opening her Mathnasium center, Betty had worked in the high-tech ecommerce industry managing and developing software products and development teams as a Product Manager, Program Manager, and Software Development Engineer in companies like Expedia and Amazon. She has an MBA from the University of Washington and a B.A.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto.
Betty received her early education through Middle School in Hong Kong and High School through University in Toronto, Canada. She has a strong STEM background and is motivated to help kids succeed in Math. She tutored math to children of elementary school, middle school, and high school in the past while she was still a student. Having experienced the Math education in the US through her elementary school aged daughter, Betty felt that the US education is behind the Asian and Canadian education standards and is very necessary for her daughter to receive supplemental Math education to help her keep up with the competitive global world in the age of globalization. Because of this reason, she discovered Mathnasium and became a believer of the Mathnasium Method. She is devoted to help her child and other children in the community to achieve greatness in Math using the Mathnasium Method.
Betty is married to her husband, Ray, and they have one daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, practicing hot yoga, listening to music and audio books, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ray Au, Owner
Ray is the Co-owner of Mathnasium of Mukilteo. He has twenty years of customer service experience in the airlines and financial services industries. Ray is currently serving as Vice President of Financial Consultant at HSBC Bank in the Greater Seattle area. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington.
Having struggled in math as a child, Ray understands the challenges faced by students falling behind. He believes that letting children learn math in a fun and engaging environment is the key to develop children's interest in math, which in turn strengthen their understanding and help them succeed. As part of the Mathnasium team, Ray and his wife, Betty, are committed to helping children learn math in a way that makes sense to them.
In his free time, Ray enjoys exercising and outdoor activites, as well as spending time with his family and friends.
Clint Harbinson, Instructor
Clint is an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo. He is currently enrolled in Everett Community College as an engineering student, as he has always excelled at math. Growing up he frequently found himself helping others with their schoolwork. Near the end of Highschool he found his passion for instruction as a PSIA certified ski instructor. Through the years instructing on snow, he learned that proper connection and communication with students is vital to the learning process. He hopes to take this knowledge and the Mathnasium process to help struggling math students. Outside of work and school Clint enjoys free skiing, motorcycles, dirt bikes, automotive work, and spend time with his friends, family, and pets.
Jabin Munoz, Instructor
Jabin is an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo. He graduated from Kamiak High School and is attending Grand Canyon University to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a high school graduate, he has completed the Calculus series and obtained his Associates Degree. In his free time, he loves to play music and ride his motorcycle as well as spend time with his friends and family. Jabin used to struggle with math as a child and understands some of the struggles that come with it. However, he has now found a passion for math and wants to expand his tutoring skills and help kids have fun with math.
An Dao, Instructor
An is an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo. She is a senior at Mountlake Terrace High School and is currently taking AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. Growing up, An has always had a passion for math because her mom and grandpa are math professors. At Mountlake Terrace, An is a tutor for her high school's homework help program. In the summer, she would go to Vietnam and volunteer to tutor children age 5 to 11 who live in poverty and orphans through a non-profit organization called Saigon Volunteer. In her free time, she likes watching TV shows and playing piano. An hopes to help kids excel in math and develop a passion for it at Mathnasium.
Tsuyoshi Kameda, Instructor
Tsuyoshi is an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo. He is a junior at Kamiak High School and is currently taking part of the Seattle Japanese School tutoring program. Being part of the program for almost a year, Tsuyoshi is gathering beneficial experience teaching math to middle school and high school students. Outside of school, he likes to hang out with friends, play soccer, and watch Netflix. At Mathnasium, Tsuyoshi hopes to bring his experience and his passion for the subject to help kids have fun and succeed in math.
John Sofich, Instructor
John is an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo. He is going to Everett Community College to study Computer Science in the winter term of 2022. Throughout his years of high school, he has been dedicated to volunteering and helping people in his community. In that time John has gathered lots of experience tutoring high school students in math. John hopes to make every student succeed in all of their math endeavors. Outside of Mathnasium, John loves moutain biking, snowboarding, puzzles, Rubik's cubes, and spending time with his family.
Christopher Schmitt, Instructor
Christopher grew up in Mukilteo, graduated from Kamiak High School, and left the area in 2019 to attend Western Washington University, where he graduated with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science in the Summer of 2021. Growing up, he would usually help his sister with math homework. He worked in a customer service job through college in which he gained valuable people and teamwork skills. He has returned to the Mukilteo area for the year and is currently applying to graduate school with the hopes of pursuing a career in academia. He is excited to work at Mathnasium, hoping to gain more experience in teaching mathematics and foster math skills in the community he grew up in. For fun in his spare time, he enjoys playing Yu-Gi-Oh at the local game shops, hanging out with his family, and watching movies.
Past Notable Instructors
Natalie Reeves, Lead Instructor
Natalie was an Instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo from 2019 - 2021 and was one of the first employees when the center first opened. Prior to joining the Mathnasium team Natalie spent time tutoring her peers through out her high school and college career. She had worked plenty of customer service jobs, so she has wonderful people skills. Natalie received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, with minors in both physics and education, from the University of Washington Bothell in June of 2020. Currently, she is working towards a secondary teaching certificate at the University of Washington Bothell in hopes to be a high school math teacher. Natalie was eager to work as an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo due to her love of math and education. Outside of work and school, Natalie enjoys spending time with family, hanging out with her cat, and eating vegan food.
Margaret Wang, Instructor
Margaret was an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo from 2019 - 2021. She was a senior at Kamiak High School and is attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall of 2021. She was the Co-President of the Kamiak Math Team and took AP Statistics during her senior year at high school. At Kamiak, she was also the President of the Academic Coaches Peer-Tutoring Club as well as playing in the school orchestra. Outside of school, she enjoys playing piano and violin, painting, and watching TV. At Mathnasium, she hopes to apply her previous experience to help and share her passion for math with other students.
Gaia Yun, Instructor
Gaia was an instructor at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo in 2021. She was a senior at Kamiak High School and is attending Dartmouth College in the fall of 2021. She completed Calculus II at Edmonds Community College during her high school senior year. At Kamiak, Gaia led the student newspaper club and was invovled in the marching band as section leader. Outside of school, she likes to garden, listen to music, and volunteer. She is excited to guide students in their academic improvement and hopes to foster in them a genuine interest in math.
