Alexander Dargel, Center Director
Alex and his wife, Jennifer, own and operate the Mathnasium of North Charlotte. Prior to opening his Mathnasium center, Alex worked at a variety of companies including a large manufacturer, one of the largest banks in the country as well as small IT startups. During his time at those companies, he specialized in data analysis and marketing. He has a B.S. in Marketing and MBA from Oral Roberts University. Alex grew up in Germany before he came to America for college thanks to a tennis scholarship. Alex always enjoyed math from a young age on and it helped him succeed in college as well as in his professional career. Now he is committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in this community. Married with 2 kids, Alex also serves at his local church, Hope Church Charlotte and still enjoys playing tennis.
Marissa, Assistant Center Director
Marissa has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina her whole life. She has an Associate of Science degree from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Currently, she is enrolled at UNCC to pursue a major in Mathematics of Middle Grades Education. She loves the atmosphere of encouragement that Mathnasium cultivates and delights in seeing the excitement and confidence of students as they grasp new topics. Marissa has two siblings and enjoys working with younger students as she leads the preschool ministry at her church on weekends.
Fun Fact: Marissa is a black belt and used to be a Tae Kwon Do instructor.
Leroy, Lead Instructor
Leroy was born in Washington DC and raised in eastern North Carolina. He attended UNC Greensboro where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a focus on secondary teaching. While Leroy was in college, he worked for the math department tutoring students and assisting the professor. Since then, Leroy has taught and tutored middle and high school students. Leroy currently teaches Math I here in Charlotte.
Fun Fact: Leroy has studied abroad in Spain and has done some missions work in Ecuador.
Sanha was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and currently attends Merancas Middle College High School, where he is able to take both high school and college courses. Sanha has always loved math and is currently taking AP Calculus BC. Sanha is still unsure about what he plans to study after high school but is considering majoring in mathematics, education, or religious studies at a four-year university. Besides math, Sanha enjoys playing tennis and basketball, running and spending time with friends and family.
Fun Fact: Sanha can speak Korean as his family moved from Korea around 20 years ago
Saafa was born and raised in Brooklyn, NYC. She currently attends Cox Mill High School where she is able to take college credits from Rowan Cabarrus Community College in addition to regular High School classes. After graduating She plans on going to college pursuing a degree in one of the natural sciences; possibly Biology. Math aside, Saafa enjoys painting and nature walks.
Fun Fact: She enjoys the Spanish language/culture and has been her school's Spanish Club President for the past two years.
Samuel is currently a senior at UNC Charlotte. He will graduate spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy. Before pursuing a degree in the field of Psychology Samuel was an Engineering student at Clemson. Now he has been accepted into graduate school at UNC Charlotte in the field of Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Play Therapy.
Fun Fact: Samuel was a competitive gymnast for 4 years!
Naomi was born in Durham, NC and was raised in North Carolina. She currently attends Merancas Middle College High School so that she can graduate with a high school diploma and associates degree. She plans on going to university after graduation to study science and mathematics and plans on achieving her bachelor's and master's degrees.
Fun Fact: Naomi has been a Girl Scout for 12 years and has received her Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve.
Robert was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the University of Toledo in which he double majored in Applied Mathematics and Communication. During his time in college, Robert was elected as The Black Student Union President for two years, in which the organization was able to raise over $10,000 in scholarships. Robert is also currently a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard, as well as a high school math teacher here in Charlotte.
Fun Fact: Robert lived in Germany for three years as a child.
Seka was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She currently attends the Cabarrus Early College of Technology and will graduate in MAy 2020 with an Associates in Science. At UNC Chapel Hill she will probably double major in biology and nutrition science. Aside from math Seka adores trying new experiences and laughing.
Fun Fact: Seka, the name itself, might have Japanese or Russian origins, but the world may never know.
Venky was raised in the greater Charlotte area and attends Cox Mill High School. He is the president/founder of Science Olympiad, president of Math Club, and organizes events at his school. Outside of school, he is a youth soccer referee for Odell Rec. Sports. Also, he enjoys working with and teaching children. His passion for math led him to dual-enroll in math classes at UNC Charlotte. In college, he hopes to pursue an engineering degree.
Fun Fact: Venky enjoys modern hip-hop and rap and prefers movies over books.
Dillon was born in Virginia and has lived in Pennsylvania and New York. Dillon grew up in Raleigh, NC and played Tennis for Fuquay Varina High School. He is currently attending UNC Charlotte majoring in Electrical Engineering and Physics plus a minor in Mathematics. After graduating Dillon plans on getting a masters degree in Electrical Engineering.
Fun Fact: Dillon runs A LOT! He has finished one marathon and several half marathons.
