My child is already an excellent math student. Can Mathnasium help them continue to improve their math skills?

Certainly. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach at the Mathnasium in the Marietta, Acworth, and Kennesaw community. Since the lesson plan is designed around the student’s skills, our mathematics tutors challenge advanced students to learn and master more complicated math concepts. Even children studying math above their grade level can benefit from improving their math skills, critical thinking, and numeric fluency. These skills are vital to continual improvement.

My child used to get good grades in math, but they've gone down with time. Why aren't they improving?

Have you ever watched a foreign movie without subtitles? It can be confusing and frustrating because you don't understand the language!  If your child is missing key math skills, this is exactly how they feel in math class!

It’s not unusual for children to succeed in their classes while concealing gaps in their understanding. Students compensate for lack of understanding with the memorization necessary to pass tests, but it will erode as their ability to keep up in more advanced classes diminishes. Sometimes they may appear to have improved their math skills, but they have only a superficial understanding of these operations which won’t help them down the line. They may also have been learning math but had their education thrown off track by changing schools or family situations.

No matter their needs, they can expect the rest of their classmates to quickly move on while they continue to struggle, creating a downward spiral. Once they think of themselves as poor students, dealing with difficult math makes them angry or depressed, discouraging them from trying to improve. When parents and teachers try to improve their slumping grades, the child resists any efforts to help them. It’s easier to refuse to do the math than put energy into an effort they think is guaranteed to fail.

Should we get a private tutor for our child?

A private mathematics tutor is often good at producing immediate results, but they usually focus on getting schoolwork done and preparing for tests. This is a temporary solution to the underlying causes for your child’s frustrations. Even a professional private tutor can’t create meaningful math skills improvement without access to a lesson plan based on an assessment of that child’s needs.

It isn’t just being tutored, students show the most improvement when surrounded by an environment that fosters learning. They need to be in contact with other students working on the same problems and dedicated instructors helping them accomplish their goals, even when they feel discouraged.

The Mathnasium Method is the result of over 30 years of refinement. Your child deserves to get the personal attention they need from a dedicated instructor. Before long, the strides your child is making will become clear.

 How is Mathnasium different?

No other organization in Marietta, Acworth, or Kennesaw can offer the personal attention Mathnasium provides. Every lesson plan we create is based upon a full assessment of that student’s learning style. Our mathematics tutors aren’t just concerned with what they know. We help teach them how to think. The information we gather helps build a bond between student and instructor, both personally and academically. Our instructors team up with their students to build understanding and help them succeed. We consider every aspect of the child’s situation, objectively and personally, and create a laser-like focus on that child’s specific needs.

We’ll use games, toys, and other learning tools to have fun and build confidence while solidifying mathematical concepts. By improving math skills, mental math, critical thinking, and number sense we create real results that last. Don’t be surprised if your math-hating child starts asking to return to Mathnasium! If your child is ready to improve their math skills, contact the Mathnasium serving North Marietta, Kennesaw, and nearby communities.

Does Mathnasium Really Work?
Yes! Quite well, but don't take our word for it -

Read our Parent Reviews

We get 100's of reviews that are glowing about how struggling students come alive after coming to Mathnasium. Their grades increase and their confidence skyrockets! Take a moment to read what your neighbors have to say about us.

Why is confidence in math important?

It's not just important, It's critical! Kids need to see that they can do the work so that they can feel confident! This fresh, new confidence will spill over to many other areas of your child's life. At this point you will start to see peace at home! You won't be having to fight with them to do homework. Not only will they have the confidence and the skills to attack it but they'll start bringing home better grades from school. How do we know this? Because we have seen it over and over again with hundreds of our students!

 Is this one-on-one tutoring?

Another great question! Our instructors are not just average math tutors. We have brilliant, engaging, inspiring math experts that work one on one with your child. They make sure your child understands what to do. Then the instructor steps back and lets your child work independently to give them the time to process this new information without the pressure and stress of being watched. It also prevents a "learned helplessness" where the student feels that they need the instructor sitting in front of them all the time in order to be successful.  [We can't be there for their math tests!]

Our instructors quickly come back after a minute or two to make sure they are doing the problems correctly, give them encouragement, and praise them for their efforts! If the student needs more math help we simply teach the lesson again in a different way without judgment or ridicule until they "get it." This enables your child to become a "confident, independent learner."
