Standard K through 8th Grade Programs
For the elementary and middle school students, we start with administering an initial assessment to determine specifically what concepts they are struggling with, as well as those they already understand. From this comprehensive oral and written assessment, we then create a tailor-made learning plan that focuses on the concepts that require review. It is important to know both their weaknesses and strengths so that we can create a plan where student works in the “sweet spot” ---- not too hard causing frustration or too easy causing boredom.
The Mathnasium approach is the right balance between helping and allowing the student to ponder the solution. Instructors explain the concepts using our unique easy to understand curriculum by directing them to the solution by asking key questions. This method of allowing the student to come to their own realization enables them to understand the “why” instead of just memorizing.
In addition to reviewing concepts, our program develops number sense techniques. Number Sense helps the student understand the relationships of numbers enabling improved mental computation and a clearer understanding of the basis behind the mathematical algorithms.
Comprehensive Programs includes 10 one-hour sessions per month with experienced math instruction, ongoing written and oral evaluations, an individualized Learning Plan, and regular written progress reports. Scheduling sessions throughout the month is very flexible.....doubling up sessions is even available.
This is a month-to-month program with an initial commitment of 3 months. Once the initial commitment is fulfilled, program can continue on a month-to-month basis at the same rate.
The Capsule program differs from the Standard program in that it is more general in it focus. It is still an individualized program targeted to help your child whether they are struggling or working ahead. The Capsule includes ongoing assessments which helps ensure your child is always working on areas of need. One of the advantages of being a little more general is that it allows for sessions to be spread out more, making it easier for students to pick up where they left off. While the Capsule program isn’t as comprehensive and pinpointed as the Standard Program, it is a very effective program for those who want targeted math help but may not have the luxury of regular scheduled attendance over a length of time.
From the Initial Assessment we’ll create an individualized plan utilizing proprietary Mathnasium developed Workout books and techniques that focus on filling key conceptual gaps that your child may have. If they are at the right math level or working ahead, the Workout books will introduce them to upcoming topics. Additionally, Number Sense techniques will be introduced and reinforced to improve mental computation and critical thinking skills. These techniques help with understanding the why behind the math which prepares students for problem solving in the real world.
Standard High School Tutoring Programs
Curriculum Program (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus)**
This program is for those students who are looking for support in their current math course. In this program, we spend most of the time helping the student understand the current school curriculum concepts so that they can understand their homework assignments and ultimately perform well in that course.
The Mathnasium approach is the right balance between helping and allowing the student to ponder the solution. Instructors explain the concepts using our unique easy to understand curriculum and then act as coaches by asking key questions that help direct them to the solutions without too much hand holding. This method teaches critical thinking skills that enable students to solve problems independently. Independent thinking develops the confidence they will need when they are alone taking tests in school.
In addition, an assessment will be administered to identify the student’s current state and needs, which will help determine if reviewing prerequisite material may be useful to help with understanding current schoolwork material.
The Curriculum Program has 2 options: 5 or 10 one-hours sessions per month (most students schedule 1 or 2 sessions per week to follow along with the school work). This program includes experienced math instruction, an individualized workbook, and contact with your child’s math teacher to stay aligned with course material. This is a month-to-month program with no required initial commitment period.
**This program can also be applied to Pre-HS students in upper middle school grades looking for the same support in their current math classes.
This program is targeted for the High School student with many gaps and in need of pre-requisite conceptual understanding of math. The student’s conceptual gaps are pinpointed through an initial assessment. An individualized learning plan is then created to prioritize the areas of need.

The Foundations Program includes 10 one-hour sessions per month with experienced math instruction, ongoing written and oral evaluations, an individualized workbook, contact with your child’s math teacher, and regular written progress reports. A limited amount of time during the hour is available to help with current homework.
This is a month-to-month program with an initial commitment of 3 months. Once the initial commitment is fulfilled, program can continue on a month-to-month basis at the same rate. Often this program is combined with the Curriculum program, referred to as the "Hybrid", which tackles current schoolwork and conceptual gaps simultaneously.
ACT and SAT Test Prep w No Extra Fees for Assessments or Enrollment
The unique Mathnasium process reduces intimidation at the test that counts by:
- making sure the student understands the math
- developing confidence for solving problems independently
- becoming comfortable with test taking technigues via practice tests
Students who have enrolled in the Mathnasium ACT or SAT program have dramatically increased their math scores. The best way to perform well on the ACT and SAT tests is to actually know the math. To accomplish this, we create an individualized program for each student that focuses on his or her specific areas of need.
Each student starts the program by taking an assessment. This pinpoints the concepts the student needs help with as well as the ones they understand well. From this we create a tailor made learning plan for each student that prioritizes the concepts we need to cover in order for them to improve their score.

Independent thinking develops the confidence they will need when they are all alone working under the pressure of a timed standardized test.
In addition to strengthening their math understanding, every 2 weeks we administer a practice test. You’ll be able to follow the improvement with each practice test they take. We also go over the practice tests results with the students to review any misunderstandings and to help them recognize some of the question idiosyncrasies and nuances that can cause confusion.
Convenient packages available for the summer ........and because our programs are individualized, you can schedule the days and times that will fit into your busy summer plans.
Most students lose about 2 months of knowledge in mathematical computation skills during the summer months and this learning loss has a cumulative effect over the years. This is known as the "Summer Slide" and can have consequences in later academic life including poor High School performance and whether students end up attending college**
These summer programs only require a minimum of 8 hours (additional sessions can be added at the special enrollment price as low as $20 per session). And with our summer flexible scheduling you'll be able to work around your busy summer vacations, camps, and activities.
This year change the trend. Mathnasium has summer programs that will keep your child from sliding during the summer.

K through 8th graders: Each program starts with an Initial Assessment that identifies the math level of your child. We’ll create an individualized plan to focus on the concepts that will help them succeed in the upcoming school year with on-going evaluations throughout the program. Their plan will address any conceptual gaps that your child may have, and if they are ahead, it will include material that will challenge them. Additionally, Number Sense techniques will be introduced and reinforced to improve mental computation and develop critical thinking skills. These techniques help with understanding the why behind the math.
High School Students: We will concentrate on preparing the student for the next coursework they’ll be taking in the fall. We’ll also address critical gaps that we identify from the Initial Assessment. These programs provide the perfect jumpstart by prepping for upcoming Geometry**, Algebra I and II, and Pre-Calc. This program will get them ready to hit the ground running in September.
**Our Geometry Prep program, in particular, fills a void that is missing— students take Pre-Algebra, Pre-Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus courses but, unfortunately, never a Pre-Geometry course.
Continue Beyond Summer with No Additional Fees
Many participants like to continue after the Summer Program to maintain momentum. All Summer Programs satisfy the Standard Program 3 month Initial Commitment requirement and therefore the student can continue on a month-to-month basis. If you choose to continue past the summer there are no additional re-enrollment or assessment fees, just the on-going monthly fee for a Standard K-8 or HS program.
