Val has a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy (music enhances brain functions!) from Illinois State University, and a Master's Degree in Education from National-Louis University. She was a special education teacher at Oak Forest High School for almost 3 decades, co-teaching in Biology, Health, Chemistry, and Physics, until her retirement in 2012. Her favorite subject is Geometry, and she also enjoys History and Astronomy. Val's husband is a civil engineer, and she has an adult son. Val is very impressed with the Mathnasium method, especially how it pinpoints learning needs, encourages mental math, helps students make sense of the concepts, and builds upon skills to solve increasingly difficult concepts.
Sana has a bachelors degree from the university of Illinois at Chicago with a major in Biological Sciences and a double minor in mathematics and psychology. She has a passion for teaching and interacting with others and feels great satisfaction at helping others. She aims to get a masters in teaching math and science and eventually a PHD in teaching of medicine. In her free time, Sana enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys reading and catching up on latest advancements and discoveries in the fields of science, human health and nutrition.
Omar Ali, Center Owner
Omar graduated from the Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering with a bachelor of science in civil engineering. After working as a civil engineer for three years following graduation, Omar fed his hunger for entrepreneurship by starting his own construction business, which he still successfully operates today. Omar was drawn to Mathnasium because it offered something different from other after-school instructional programs, particularly its focus on practical elements of math such as problem solving and mental math. Omar serves on the boards of two private schools in the Western Suburbs of Chicago where he lives with his wife and their three children.
