Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

CenterDirectorAilene Shan, Center Director 

Ailene received her degree in Accounting and Hospitality Business from Michigan State University and has worked at various corporate firms including KPMG and BP America. Ailene knows from her own personal experience that the joy of learning is in the understanding and the value of knowledge is in its application. While taking a step back from her professional career, she engages her children with activities that involved math concepts in their everyday life; cultivating and nurturing their love for math. Ailene understands that kids learn in a variety of ways and believes that the Mathnasium method of teaching can change a child’s attitude towards math. She hopes to help kids develop their minds and have fun working out their math muscles. Ailene also looks forward to teaching students the importance of strong study skills, which will serve them in subjects beyond math as they make their way through high school and on to college. 

InstructorKin Chan, Instructor

Kin comes with more than 25 years of combined industry experience in business management, accounting, auditing and consulting, information technology and education. He has a BS in Accounting from Rutgers University and a MS in E-Commerce Technology from DePaul University. Kin believes that math not only builds logical, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Addtionally, having a good foundation in math also builds confidence and allows students more options, and broader opportunities to achieve their maximum potential in life. Since Mathnasium allows kids to learn math in a unique and fun way, it’s a perfect match for success.  

 

                                      

Omar Abdel-Rehman, Lead Instructor 

Omaris a junior at Carl Sandburg Hugh School taking AP Calculus BC and other AP classes. As an active member of her school community, Omar particiates in clubs like Med Central  Medical Journal, Chicago Youth Science Journal, Model UN, Youth and Government and Mu Alpha Theta. Outside of school, Omar enjoys playing soccer and volunteering at the Orland Park Prayer Center. He enjoys both studying and applying math concepts and strives to help others become just as passionate about math!

 

 

 

Arushi Sharma, Instructor 

Arushi is a junior at Carl Sandburg High School on advanced track taking many AP classes including AP Calculus BC. She is the President for her school Environmental Club and also actively involved in Debate, Mu Alpha Theta and Medical Club (HOSA). Arushi is very passionate about environmental issues and has involved in many meaningful activities and projects. She has over 150 hours giving back to nature centers and making positive differences in the community and environment. Arushi loves Mathnasium’s positive environment and looks forward to helping students build their confidence.

 
 
 
 
Anjola Ogedengbe, Instructor 
Anjola is a junior at Carl Sandburg High School currently taking AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry. His academic accomplishments include being the top 5% amongst juniors at his school and scored in the 99 percentile in his PSAT math section. Outside of classroom, Anjola is actively involved in several clubs including Mu Alpha Theta, A.C.E.S., Academic Club, Interact Club and hold a leadership position in his school Black Sudent Union. In his free time, you would find Anjola volunteering at his school math resource center and also at the local St Mike church. Anjola has a zeal and passion for math and is excited to help students gain confidence and improve their skills in math!
 
 
 
Thomas Locke, Instructor 

Thomas is a junior at Carl Sandburg High School currently taking AP Calculus BC and other AP classes. His passion lies in the STEM field and is making a difference through his active participation in Mathletes and ACES clubs. Thomas also holds an executive position with the robotics team and is part of National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He loves nature and working with children and often spends his time outside of school volunteering at nature centers and running children's programs at his church. Thomas's favorite subject is math, and he looks forward to sharing his love of math with the students at Mathnasium!

 

 

Chloe Slack, Instructor 

Chloe is a senior at Carl Sandburg High School currently honors math and AP classes. She loves everything about math and music related, paeticipating in Sandburg's philharmonic orchestra. Chloe is skilled in cello and piano and also takes part in the Sandburg tennis team. She has over 100 volunteer hours working with children in art programs. Chloe loves being outdoor, taking hikes and enjoys outdoor activities, rain or shine. She loves applying math to everyday life and finding new and creative ways to teach math!

 

 
 
 
Shreyas Shah, Instructor
Shreyas is a junior at Carl Sandburg High School on the honors/AP track. He is currently taking AP Calculus BC and has completed all advanced math classes with high grades. Shreyas believes in a well-rounded student experience and is actively involved in several clubs including Debate, Mu Alpha Theta and Investment Club. He also plays for Sandburg's varsity tennis team and has a keen interest in music especially in percussion band. Shreyas aspires to make an impact in the community by volunteering at the local food pantry and city festivals. He is always happy to teach and share his math skills with Mathnasium students.
 
 
 
Joe Dajani, Instructor
Joe is a senior at Carl Sandburg High School taking AP Calculus BC and other AP classes. He is an academically outstanding student placing in the top 1 percent in both PSAT and SAT. Joe believes in giving back to his community  and co-founded the Alliance for African Education. Through this volunteer group, over 2,000 books are donated and two libraries are funded in Africa. Joe has also spent a summer abroad teaching English to children in a remote village in Spain. He loves Mathnasium's positive environment and looks forward to helping students build their confidence. 
 
 
 
 
Devanshi Patel, Instructor
Devanshi is a senior at Carl Sandburg High School taking several AP classes including AP Calculus BC and other AP science classes. She is a student leader for Medical Club and also hold an executive role with the Debate Team. Devanshi has clocked over 100 hours hours mostly volunteering at Silver Cross Hospital. She deeply believes that math is a lifeskill obtainable to all and works dilligently to teach with enthusiasm. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Emma Landsly, Instructor
Emma is a senior at Carl Sandburg High School and is taking all AP classes this year includng AP Biology and AP Spanish. She is also pursuing dual enrollment with Moraine Valley Community College to further her Calculus and Physics studies. Emma is an active leader and member in several clubs including Mathletes, Interact and Humanitarian Club, Relay for Life Commitee and First Class Ambassadors. Outside of classroom, Emma is exremrely passionate about giving back to the community by tutoring students in the school Math Resource Center, Literacy Lab and Social Studies Resource Center. She also plays on the Girls Tennis and Badminton teams at Sandburg. Emma loves Mathnasium's positive teaching atmosphere and ia eager to share her passion for math with students.
 
 
Alina Alqazaha, Instructor
 Alina is a senior at Carl Sandburg High school and has been enrolled in advanced math classes throughout his high school career and is currently taking AP Calculus BC. Along with this, Alina believes in giving back to her community and has over 200 hours volunteering at the local church, soup kitchen and library. Addtionally, she spends her lunch break tutoring at the school's Math Center helping her peers understand their math homeworks and tests. Alina is interested in the STEM field and had spent summers shadowing physicians. She is to help students become more confident in their math skills.
 
 
 
Kaitlyn Kenney, Instructor
Kaitlyn is a senior at Carl Sandburg high school taking a slate of AP classes including AP Bioogy, AP Physics and AP Spanish. She completed AP Calculus AB last year with flying colors and has just been named the National Merit Scholar Semifinalist. Kaitlyn enjoys music and theatre and is a member of Chorale where she had performed at the Carnegie Hall. Outside of classroom, Kaitlyn is an active member and leader of several clubs including Scholastic Bowl, Mu Alpha Theta, International Youth Neuroscience Association and ACES. In her free time, she writes and volunteers as a cantor for her church as well as tutoring her peers at her shcool Literacy Lab. Kaitlyn is excited to join the team and share her passion for math with others. 
 
 
Yasmeen Ashkar, Instructor

Yasmeen is a college student at Illinois Institute of Technology majoring in biomedical engineering and minoring in computer science. She is a student leader at her college involving in clubs like the Biomedical Engineering Society, Women in STEM, UNICEF and the Muslim Student Association. Yasmeen has taken advanced level math courses throughout high school and continues to do so in college. She is also passionate about making a difference in the community and has volunteered in several community impact projects such as the Aspen Young Leaders Fellowship and also the ComEd Create a Spark program. Yasmeen is excited to help Mathnasium students become more confidence in their math skills.
